I do everything involved in a full remodel, including woodworking, flooring, sheetrock, plumbing, electrical, tile, painting, framing, decks siding window replacement. Also I can service pools. I've been doing remodeling about 6 years, but I've been a subcontractor for about 13 years, I was a foreman at S&M Home Improvement in Tennessee for 10 years. I also do landscaping, I was a supervisor at Metro Lawn care for 4 years. You can pour concrete over asphalt if it’s in good condition, thick, stable, and well-compacted. Concrete is more durable than asphalt and can extend the lifetime of your driveway without having to pay frequent asphalt driveway repair costs or replace it completely. 

But this is best reserved as a temporary solution based on budget restraints, as asphalt requires more frequent repairs and assessments than concrete. Once that concrete top is poured, it’ll be harder to accurately understand what’s happening beneath that layer, which could lead to more issues.

Yes, you can pour a foundation slab without footings, in which case it’s often called a floating slab. Floating slabs don’t have separate footings poured beforehand for support, which means they’re better suited for smaller structures. Monolithic concrete slabs are another option for a slab foundation without standalone footings, although the vertical edges of the single-pour slab do act as footings.

The method used to repair cracks in your concrete driveway will depend on the extent of the damage, but the most common method for small cracks is to use a driveway resurfacing compound. This solution is either cementitious or made of polyurethane, and it will seal the crack and make your driveway appear undamaged. 

For more severe cracks, you will likely need to hire a professional driveway repair service. They can use mudjacking, epoxy injections, partial driveway replacements, or a combination of these to fix more serious cracks in your concrete driveway and to prevent recurring issues.

In most cases, you’ll want your patio to be 4 inches thick, although you should add reinforcement and increase the thickness up to around 8 inches if you want it to support heavier loads and resist cracking more readily. Although thicker slabs will cost more, you’ll start seeing diminishing returns at around 6 inches.

Concrete blemishes such as chipped steps or small cracks are fixable with patching. For bigger jobs, including driveway repair and cracks wider than a 1/4 of an inch, patches will only serve as a temporary fix. Resurfacing is ideal when the surface is showing more widespread wear—like if it’s pitted, rough, or has lots of cracks. Resurfacing gives your concrete a fresh, like-new appearance without needing a full replacement.

When the concrete is severely cracked, sinking, or otherwise structurally unsound, replacing it might be your best option. Replacement ensures the safety and longevity of the surface in this case.
