"When you find a contractor that is professional and has integrity, I believe you should scream it from the rooftops. I have been burned by contractors before. What started off as a small service job was quoted as a complete electrical change out in the house and garage at our request. We paid our deposit. He pulled permits and began within 2 weeks. He gave daily updates to set expectations on what was going to happen next and to check in if we had any questions. Josh and Harold completed our project in a timely manner and was very courteous to us throughout the whole job. I highly recommend their services. You will not be disappointed."

"Mr. Donohue is very knowledgeable and has excellent experience in the lightning protection area. He responds quickly and has a very professional team of workers. He quoted the job using google earth information. When he visited the site he reduced his price by over 50%. I highly recommend him and I will use his company again."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Electric water heaters use a high amount of electricity, so they’re best for homeowners who subsidize their electric bill with solar or who live in an area with inexpensive electricity. For others, gas water heaters versus electric water heaters may be the more cost-effective solution, with the added bonus of heating water quickly and efficiently. No matter which you choose, you can lower your water temperature as low as possible to keep costs down.

You can plug your electric car into a regular 120-volt household outlet only if you’re using a Level 1 charger. This method is slower and may take several days to fully charge your EV. For faster charging, you’ll need a Level 2 charger, which requires a 220- or 240-volt outlet.

Yes, the National Electrical Code (NEC) requires that outdoor Christmas lights be plugged into a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet to prevent hazardous electrical shocks or an electrical fire. It’s a code violation to plug outdoor Christmas lights into a non-GFCI outlet, so be sure to follow these guidelines for a safe and successful installation.

It’s recommended that you test GFCI outlets monthly with the test and reset buttons. At minimum, you should test GFCI outlets when entering a new season, or every three months. These are important home safety features that you should ensure work properly.

GFCI outlets generally need to be replaced every 7 to 15 years, though some may fail in as little as 5 years, depending on usage. It is important to test them regularly. Signs that a GFCI outlet is failing or has reached the end of its lifespan include: no power coming from the outlet, the outlet not resetting when the 'reset' button is pressed, or the outlet not tripping when the 'test' button is pressed. If you notice any of these issues, it is time to replace the outlet, and it's best to contact an electrician to do so.
