Rust in your bathtub occurs when iron in the water or on metal components in your tub are exposed to oxygen, but while it’s unsightly, it won’t make bathing dangerous. However, if the rust appears under or around your tub spout or shower head, it could indicate that you have high levels of iron in your water. If your tub has large cracks, is leaking, or is otherwise severely damaged, we recommend replacing it with a new bathtub. Refinishing a bathtub can only fix superficial problems, so these issues will still be present or reappear after a refinishing.

It takes about 24 hours for the tub resurfacing smell to go away or the total dry time, although you will notice it the most during the first couple of hours. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or ask your bathtub resurfacing pro how long it takes for the smell to dissipate. 

Routine cleaning with light detergents, avoiding abrasives, and timely addressing chips prolong the new surface appearance.

The difference between resurfacing and refinishing is that refinishing only works on solid surfaces that are in good condition, whereas resurfacing will restore a cracked or worn surface to its original, blemish-free state.
