"Went very well. Scheduled it to check for any post-earthquake damage and fire hazards. Scheduling was easy--several weeks backlog to schedule an appointment, probably because of the Angie's List Big Deal customers, but it was not a problem at all. Technician showed up on time and did full inspection. While the deal also included a full sweep/cleaning, he did not need to do much cleaning because the fireplace had not been used much at all over the last year. He correctly identified this, and confirmed no damage or potential for leaks or fire hazards. He did some touch-up work at the top of the chimney, adjusted/fixed the cap, and recommended at some point doing some additional touch-up masonry work in the future, but did not try to pressure or scare us to buy any additional services. Technician was friendly, informative, and clearly seemed to know what he was doing and talking about. He was on time, did not rush through the inspection, and it was a positive experience overall. Would recommend them to friends/relatives. "

Staining or painting brick isn’t something to do on a whim. Make sure you really want to live with stained brick, because once you apply the stain, it’s permanent. Sure, it will fade over time, but you can’t restore the brick to its natural tones after applying a stain or paint.
Yes, it is usually possible to repair a damaged brick mailbox. A professional brick mason or masonry contractor can perform the repairs. They can assess the damage, provide an estimate, and help you determine if the repair is worthwhile based on the mailbox's value and the extent of the damage. The repair process may involve sourcing replacement bricks and mortar. Damaged bricks can be cut out and replaced, or the mortar joints can be cut out and retucked. It's important to note that the new mortar may differ in color from the original. If the mailbox insert itself is damaged, it can typically be cut out and replaced as well. If your brick mailbox has been completely destroyed, you should check with your local building code enforcement office before rebuilding, as some areas do not allow brick mailboxes due to the potential hazard they pose to drivers.
Brick stain doesn’t peel or chip and is much more durable than painting. That’s because the staining is absorbed into the brick instead of lingering on the surface as paint does. The color retains even under extreme weather conditions. Therefore, brick stain will save you a lot of time and cost on maintenance in the long run.
A fireplace hearth is a fireproof flooring material that extends out from the base of the fireplace and into the room. Hearths can be made of brick, ceramic, marble, limestone, and more. A hearth serves the purpose of decreasing the fire risk in the area directly around the fireplace. If flying embers hit carpet or wood, they’ll spark and create a fire. But if they hit something like tile or granite, they’ll simply go out.
Limewash can be removed from brick, but the method of removal will depend on how long the limewash has been on the brick. If the limewash has fully dried—which happens after about five days—you’ll need to use a diluted muriatic acid mixture to remove it. If there are multiple coats of limewash, you may need to apply the acid mixture several times to fully remove it from the brick.
