"Mr. Otis is so many things! The first few words that come to mind are: honest, efficient, and trustworthy. A storm came through a knocked over a rather large 10' fence down, he came out, straightened the botched job and reinforced the fence. When I learned he was a man of many talents, I asked for new screens and shutters on my windows, a new commercial door to be installed, an attic pull-down ladder installed and so many other things. Mr. Otis is one of the most respectful and honest men I've ever had the pleasure of working with. I have plenty more asks of him. I will use him again and again!"

"Mr. Ferrell first connected his computer to my computer via internet and worked for quite a few hours trying to determine what exactly was wrong. The next day he continued working from his computer for several hours. He determined he would have to have my desktop tower to complete the repair. He and my son met in Huntsville to exchange the tower. He then cleaned up a lot of what was wrong and reloaded Windows 10. He deleted the D: drive which had way too much memory allotted to it. The tower was returned and I plugged it all back together and it is working better than it did when I first purchased it. I would use him again and I recommend him highly to anyone needing computer updating and/or repair. His work is warrantied and he is very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful."

"We had a checklist of handyman tasks that needed to be done. Mr. Greene & his workmen showed up early & worked all day until the job was completed. Mr. Greene came back after the job to put the finishing touches on jobs that were awaiting materials. Mr. Greene aims to please & is open to suggestions. Me. Greene also replaced some hardiplank that was difficult to install. A humble, appreciative, easy to get along with, kind of guy!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

Impact windows are a type of window made with impact-resistant glass, designed specifically for hurricanes. The glass, treated with ethylene-vinyl, can withstand winds up to 200 mph, as well as flying debris. Brands sometimes test their impact windows with large missile impact tests.

Impact windows may be required in some places. For instance, the Florida Building Code requires homes to have impact-resistant windows if they live within a mile of the coast where wind speeds can reach 110 mph or more.

The most common types of window frames include frame and sash, metal or aluminum frames, composite frames, fiberglass frames, vinyl frames, wood frames, glass or glazed frames, and insulated frames. Frames can also be categorized by operating types, such as awning frames, single/double-sliding frames, fixed frames, casement frames, and single/double-hung frames.

When it comes to your pocket, opting for energy-efficient windows can lead to an average of 12% in energy bill savings. That totals to yearly energy savings between $100 and $600. However, the exact amount you’ll save hinges on factors like your local climate and the number of windows in your home.

Most properly installed and maintained windows last between 15 and 20 years. Fiberglass windows last much longer than your average window. Since they don’t warp from temperature changes, rust, or rot, you might be able to hold onto fiberglass windows for up to 40 years. On the other hand, poorly maintained wood windows may only last for a few years.

Storm windows are placed outside of already-installed windows. Regular windows are installed into a frame, offering a barrier to the elements but no special protection. Storm windows add extra protection to regular windows, reduce noise, and improve insulation. Replacing a regular window involves a different process than installing a storm window.
