"Rod and his helper Danny work together seamlessly and efficiently while still being funny and engaging. I've hired many electricians in my lifetime of old home renovations and have never been more impressed. I had a worst case scenario about this job and he could have easily gouged me for unnecessary repairs but he didn't. If you want an honest electrician then Rod is your guy."

"They come when they say they are. They not only tell you what the problem is. They show you what it is, and give you the best option to fix it. They don’t jack up the prices for parts, and they get it done the right way the first time around. Great people and, I’m gladly grateful and pleased! MAC HVAC was the ones to fix my problems"

Small jobs welcome

"We needed to have a soldier course of bricks installed into a channel cut into the driveway. Not a big project. 16 1/2 feet and we had the bricks. We had some outrageous quotes from people who did not even bother to look at the project. Then Troy called; he came to see us and described how he would do it and quoted a reasonable price. We agreed on a date. They called to let us know they were on the way. Pleasant and professional. And neat. We will have him back for a few other projects."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

The average cost to have a professional install Christmas lights on a roof is about $420, with most homeowners spending between $220 and $650. Some companies may charge between $1.25 and $3 per square foot, excluding the cost of the lights. For extensive or complex jobs, the cost can exceed $1,000. While doing it yourself can save money, it is only recommended if you are comfortable working at heights.

Christmas lights typically do not need to be grounded like electrical circuits in your home do. However, it's crucial to use outdoor outlets equipped with ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) for added safety. GFCIs can help protect against electrical shocks and are recommended for outdoor electrical connections when using Christmas lights.

Ensure you have a safe environment for them to work on, and there aren’t items such as logs, build-up of yard materials, missing or damaged shingles, and weak areas on the roof. Communicate any known electrical issues with contractors at the beginning of the project, and consider hiring an electrician to fix those. Finally, if you are attempting the project yourself, do so when there isn’t any rain, and you can safely get your footing on the roof using proper equipment, such as an extension ladder. Don’t attempt this alone, and have a helper nearby to assist.

No, you should not leave LED Christmas lights up all year. While the LED lights themselves are very durable, their wiring and casings can be as vulnerable as any Christmas lights. They’re subject to drying out, experiencing cold or sun damage that causes them to crack, and even damage caused by gnawing pests. (The same is true of incandescents.) If you want your lights to last the years that they’re rated for, bring them inside after Christmas is over.

Aside from a professional light installation company, there are a few other pros who may be able to help you hang Christmas lights. Along with specialty holiday decorators, a handyperson near you can also hang Christmas lights (and can fix that pesky drippy sink while they’re at it). Either way, not all of these pros will offer the service, so be sure to call ahead and get multiple quotes before you hire.
