"I purchased a Generac standby generator from AirSouth in July of 2022. I was assured that this standby generator would power my home in the invent of a power outage. When the generator was installed, there was a problem with this brand-new generator, and they had to order a new main board because the generator was not charging. I was concerned about this, but the generator had a five-year warranty, and they explain sometime equipment have bad parts. AirSouth assure me that they would do regular maintenance to make sure this generator was performing as expected. WHICH THEY DID NOT DO! The first time we experienced a power outage was on Friday 06/16/23 the generator came on for about one and half hours and shut off. I called AirSouth and they sent a technician out that spent about 25 minutes out here and told my husband that the main board had went out and they would have to order one and it would not be in until Tuesday 06/20/23. I paid 13,822 for a backup generator that did not work the first time it was needed. When I called AirSouth to ask to speak to a manager or someone in charge I was told they were on another call and was not able to take my call. I than explained to Denise that I would not allow any repairs to this generator, and I needed them to replace it because obviously there is a defect with this generator if the generator requires three main boards in less than a year. She explained to me that they would only be able to repair this unit not replace it. AirSouth showed no concern for me or my family after I had paid them for this generator. I only make about 40,000 a year so this was a huge investment for me. They were total unconcerned that this was a brand new system that had never been use. They seem to think it was ok that I would have to wait four days during a power outage to use a generator that I paid them to install and had never had cause to use. Right now, I am feeling as through I have been scammed because I made the decision to invest this large amount of money for the security of my family and when the power went out, we were in the same position as everyone else, no power. My husband had to go and pay $400 for a portable generator to get us through the weekend. Bad business!! This was the perfect opportunity for the advertisement of not only Generac but also AirSouth due to the fact everyone in the area was hot and frustrated. My family, friends and I'm sure my neighbors were aware that I had recently had the Generac installed, and because AirSouth do the huge advertisement on their vehicles they were aware of who did the install. Epic failure, because when the power went out, everyone witness the fact that after paying for this generator I was still in the same situation as everyone else, NO POWER! I should have just stayed with the portable generator. It would have be much, much cheaper! A week later and they are still making excuses."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Doubling the insulation in your home also doubles the R-value of said insulation. In other words, by adding more insulation, you can reduce the heat loss by half. Most homes benefit from increasing insulation. Older homes, in particular tend to have less insulation as is, so doubling your insulation could drastically reduce your energy bills, keep your home more comfortable, and take the strain off your HVAC system.

The most obvious con of injection foam is the cost. It’s much more expensive to install than fiberglass or spray foam, but it may be your only option (unless you want to remove entire walls around the home). Another con is that it involves drilling into existing material, which has to be repaired after the foam is injected. Some injection foams are made from products that aren’t environmentally friendly, and improper installation can lead to trapped moisture, which can lead to expensive mold remediation down the road.

If you have blown-in insulation, using an insulation vacuum will quickly and easily suck up all the insulation. Many come with built-in HEPA filters for added safety. While some people suggest breaking up large batts and feeding them into the vacuum, this can expose you to more fiberglass fibers. With batts and rolls, carefully removing them and placing them into garbage bags is a better process.

For a truly DIY solution to protect your outdoor faucets from freezing, you can craft your own faucet sock out of spare rags, plastic shopping bags, and duct tape—but this method might not be as effective (or attractive) as store-bought. If you choose to DIY your own outdoor faucet cover, be aware that rags, old towels, and other fabric you might use to wrap the faucet can absorb water like a sponge and could cause problems if it freezes.

The best way to reduce heat upstairs is to release it by opening a window. Hot air rises, and if you can create some airflow by opening a window upstairs and also one on a lower level, the hot air should be pushed out of the home. Remember that fans pointing out the window do a much better job of circulating air than fans pointing into the home.
