"I recently hired Queen City Heating and Cooling to repair my Air Conditioner at my residence. I was told I would have to pay a deposit on my bill to have them come out. I was told they would be there shortly. Being a retired electrician, I thought I would try and find the problem, so I opened my electrical panel and determined that the breaker was supplying the proper voltage. I then checked the safety disconnect next to the unit and it was okay. Seeing as my fan wasn't running, I took a yard stick and spun the fan to see if it was frozen, it was not and it ran slowly. When the Tech arrived, I told him what I had done, and I told him it appeared to be the capacitor. He opened unit by removing two screws and immediately said your right. He then replaced the capacitor and handed me a bill for $294.70. Afterwards, I talked to a friend who is a landlord and he told me that I probably could have bought a Generic Capacitor for about $30.00. I found the Tech to be prompt and friendly and it appears to be a good company. I just think considering what I had done the bill was excessive."

"Jim responded promptly to my order placed on Angie's List for the Remote Computer Tune Up & Repair Deal.  He cleaned up the computer remotely, which was running very slowly, and required frequent re-boots.  Computer is running much faster now.  Great service.  Would highly recommend.

"Rick was great to work with. He gave us a much better bid than two other repair services I checked. Also, when there was a problem later with one of the units not cooling properly, he came out twice to identify the problem and fix it. When he identified the issue as being related to part of his initial repair, he insisted that there would be NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE to us! We really appreciate him and would highly recommend R & L Envirocare! :-)"

"I had a lot of additional cost. It ended up at $1500. They only cleaned three, for the big deal. And then, I had a thing that they put in to make sure that the air stays clean. They said I had a humidifier on my furnace and they said that it had to come off. And then, they said you can get a much better one and then they kind of disappeared and they didn't talk about it or really sit down and have a conversation with me. I'm not even sure why they had to take it off or what they did."

Humidifier Repair questions, answered by experts

An evaporator or swamp cooler is a common alternative for small spaces. These coolers blow moist air into a space to help cool it down. They are more affordable than misters and use much less water. However, coolers will not have the same cooling effect as misters, cannot help plants survive the heat, and only reach a small area.

Whole-house humidifiers can damage your furnace if a problem with the water supply happens. To avoid mechanical trouble, maintain your humidifier by keeping the filter clean and the drain line clear.

Air conditioners and dehumidifiers are actually quite similar, though they perform different jobs. Dehumidifiers reduce moisture in the air, while air conditioners work to cool the home. A good central AC unit will naturally perform a certain level of dehumidification due to its design, but it will not be able to handle excessive levels of moisture.

One handy thing about whole-house dehumidifiers is, once installed, you don’t have to worry about placement or changing the dehumidifier’s position. But if you are using a portable dehumidifier, we suggest keeping it away from walls, vents, and furniture. It needs a central, unobstructed spot with access to lots of air to do its job.

Whole-house humidifiers work, but the home itself determines their efficacy. If you have a drafty house or an old home with wooden floors that leak air and moisture, the humidifier must work much harder to keep moisture levels constant. Because of this, we recommend doing an air test of your home to determine the best type of humidifier and any work that needs to be done to install it.
