"Did a great job staining my fence and deck. Professional, friendly and very reasonable on his price. I will certainly have him back for some other jobs in the spring. I would definitely recommend him."

Small jobs welcome

Hello, I am a recently retired educator and coach. I learned building trades from my father as a child and worked with him in construction for 8 years building houses from the ground up including plumbing, wiring, concrete, cabinetry, etc. from framing to finish. I have completed my own additions, remodeling, and repairs for the last 30 years. I'm a detail oriented perfectionist that enjoys working with my hands and providing a quality, reasonably priced service.

"Mr. Monteer removed a wall paper border that had been installed for several years. After the paper removal, he made drywall repairs and painted. The walls looked new when the job was finished. He was very careful to keep paint off my wood work, carpeting and furniture. He taped and covered everything to keep any from being damaged."

"Home Adviser should let the company know that I wanted them to do the work when they came out. They were not prepared totally to power wash my house. They did have their power washer but did not have any chemicals to clean with. If I was suppose to supply the chemicals I should have been informed ahead of time. They did an excellent job cleaning my siding."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The cost to build a deck around a pool typically ranges from $3,000 to $12,000, depending on the size, material, and whether you tackle the build yourself. Most people pay an average of $5,000 for their pool deck project. Hiring a pro to build a pool will cost you more for labor, but it will be worth it to ensure a safe and secure installation.

It is recommended to clean your deck once or twice a year to prevent the accumulation of dirt, debris, mold, and mildew. The ideal times for cleaning are in the spring and fall. A spring cleaning removes grime that has built up over the winter, preparing your deck for summer use. A fall cleaning washes away messes from summer activities, preventing them from setting into the wood over the winter. The exact frequency can depend on factors such as how often the deck is used, its exposure to pollen, and whether salt was used on it during the winter. Regular cleaning helps protect the wood and its finish from damage.

Yes, you can build a pool deck yourself, but it takes precision, a lot of time, and many specific tools. You’ll need to create a deck plan, be careful with measurements, cut each piece of wood, secure the pieces properly, and ensure the deck meets building codes. Building a deck around a pool is a rewarding DIY, but it’s time- and labor-intensive, so thoughtfully consider your abilities and the time you have before embarking on this DIY.

There are several perks to building a deck around your inground or above-ground pool. Specifically, building a deck around a pool gives you space to lounge and sunbathe, easy access to monitor kids in the pool, extra room for entertaining and dining, an anti-slip surface for post-pool fun, and enhanced aesthetics.

When sourced responsibly, the most sustainable wood decking options are timber trees like redwood, pine, Douglas fir, Nootka cypress, and Western red cedar. These tree species are fast-growing with low carbon emissions. Plus, most timber woods make durable deck materials because of their resistance to rot and decay over time.
