"Oh they'll come and do the work, case your house, and when they show up a year later to check on the work they'll offer you something else that they just happened to have in the truck. In my case they noticed we had a dehumidifier and a year later they ripped my wife off and sold her an over $2000 dehumidifier, and when I asked her to send it back they refused to take it back and now we're stuck with it so it seems, absolutely disgusting way of working."

They dumped all the concrete they removed in the backyard without asking and left an enormous hole in the front of the house where the fireplace is. When I (5'1" femme) asked to speak to a supervisor about the delay and dumping, they sent a good old boy (300 pds, 6'2") to scream at me in my living room. No supervisor was present to verify the work and I was not permitted to watch them. They pressured me to sign the inspection form, without me inspecting anything. They are a SCAMMMM! I would only recommend Olshan as revenge."

Whether interior versus exterior basement waterproofing is better for your home depends on your budget. The majority of water issues that homeowners experience in their basements are due to conditions that start outside of the home. So, to prevent those problems from seeping in, it’s better to stop them at the source using outside waterproofing methods.

Venting the crawl space can be a good alternative to encapsulation if you live in a dry climate and the moisture problem isn’t severe. You could also try a dehumidifier or install a vapor barrier on the floor, leaving the walls exposed. A new drainage system may eliminate the moisture problem if it is not caused by humidity.

The only real negative when encapsulating a crawl space is that the cost is high. It can cost several thousands of dollars to do this project. While less common, another disadvantage could be encapsulation making access to pipes and electrical slightly more complicated in certain crawl spaces.

Installing a French drain is a relatively inexpensive method if you do the work yourself, although it’s labor-intensive and can be challenging to install properly.

Proper basement ventilation is very effective at reducing humidity. Without enough ventilation, your basement is prone to mold and moisture damage. Your basement should have as much natural ventilation via windows and doors as possible, and if your budget allows, you should also consider installing an ERV system to keep basement humidity levels at bay.
