Small jobs welcome

Hello, I am a recently retired educator and coach. I learned building trades from my father as a child and worked with him in construction for 8 years building houses from the ground up including plumbing, wiring, concrete, cabinetry, etc. from framing to finish. I have completed my own additions, remodeling, and repairs for the last 30 years. I'm a detail oriented perfectionist that enjoys working with my hands and providing a quality, reasonably priced service.

"Beyond expectations! The landscape had overgrown with wisteria and other vines but Caden and his crew tackled it with some hard work. They were constantly in contact with us to ensure things were being done to our satisfaction. Everything they did included making sure that the yard waste was neatly piled and hauled off. We will definitely use CG Ace Contracting again!"

"These young men are professional, timely, decently priced and most importantly to me, they did absolutely great work. They were there everyday until the job was completely done. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Definitely recommend!"

"I hired Handy Helper & The Helping Hands for cleaning service. I wanted them to do a deep "Spring" cleaning in my 4 bed/3 bath home. - The work was very good - They had quick email response and I could schedule everything electronically - The price was comparable to other services in the area The interactions with the company were different than what I have experienced with other cleaning services. They wanted to come out and see what work we wanted done before scheduling the cleaning--like the quote or job spec visit you get when hiring a handyman or landscaping service. Also, they did not want me to be present in my home during the cleaning service. I thought we had worked this out during the initial visit, but they again insisted that I leave on the actual day of the service. I would recommend them if you are looking for a service to do a "move out" clean or are comfortable with having the service in your home independently."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Choices include wood, composite, and hardwoods, each with unique benefits.

Pressure-treated lumber is one of the most affordable types of decking upfront. This material is widely available, so you can usually find pressure-treated lumber at almost any local home improvement store you visit. Keep in mind that wood requires a lot of upkeep with repainting and restaining, so any kind of wood may be more expensive in the long run than something like PVC decking.

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.

It is possible to build your own deck, but it’s typically better to leave the work to a decking professional. Decks can be exceptionally complicated, especially if you want a wrap-around or second-story deck, and you don’t want to risk making an expensive or dangerous mistake. It’s usually better to hire a decking pro who can pull permits and build a structurally sound deck that will last for decades and provide the maximum return on investment.

Both a well-constructed deck and a patio can add value to your home. Patios are generally cheaper to build but don’t offer the same aesthetics as a quality deck. Therefore, decks can be more appealing to buyers than patios, increasing a home's resale value.
