"The installers were great. The salesperson made promises that he did not keep and he missed a window. When the person came to measure he also didn’t catch that I was having all my windows done except one. The windows look great. The response when I notified the co that one window was missed was very fast but added to my cost."

"I recently had the pleasure of working with JCPS, and I could not be more impressed! From the moment I contacted them, everything was seamless. They arrived right on time, which was a huge relief, and got to work immediately. The entire job was done in no time. What really stood out was their professionalism and how easy they were to communicate with. They explained the issue clearly, took care of everything with great expertise, and left the area clean and tidy. It was such a stress-free experience. I highly recommend JCPS to anyone in need of quick, reliable, and professional work. Ill definitely be calling them again for future projects!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

Wood windows are often worth the cost because they add more to curb appeal and your home value than more affordable options like vinyl and aluminum. Wood windows also offer better insulation than vinyl and aluminum windows, and they can last about twice as long. As such, they’re more expensive up front but offer greater value and a higher ROI.

DIY is possible with the proper tools. Professional installation ensures a proper seal and energy efficiency.

The material around a window is simply called the window frame, but the individual pieces also have different names. The top portion of the frame is called the head, the side pieces are called jambs, and the bottom portion is called the sill. If you have multiple windows next to each other, you’ll also have a mullion, which is the frame piece that separates the individual windows. Windows stacked on top of each other are separated by a horizontal frame piece, which is called a transom.

Most manufacturers have their name imprinted somewhere on the window, such as the spacer bar, hardware, or frame. Other manufacturers will include an identification number printed on the glass itself. If you’re unable to find either of these, then your window was manufactured locally (oftentimes called a “shop window”).

With a manufacturer name (or even better, the identification number) you can attempt to research the information to find out when the product was made. Keep in mind this won’t tell you when the window was installed on your home, but can get you close.

Yes, but professionals use specialized equipment and cleaning solutions to safely achieve streak-free, long-lasting results.
