"I know like me there are many people at the Lake of the Ozark’s that are having to deal with Dock damage due to ice and the low lake level, my walkway had slipped off the sea wall and some anchor lines were broken. I searched for a repair specialist and found Docktor Dock on this app. Joe came out gave me a free estimate of the cost and scheduled the repair job, Joe was professional and knowledgeable of how to repair the damage. I would recommend Docktor Dock for anyone that is dealing with Dock issues of any kind, this company is a “five star” and I would hire them again if needed."

Install Stair Railings questions, answered by experts

Although many types of railing can be fairly easy to install, cable and rope railing systems are probably the easiest. All you need to do is string them through and secure them. Barring those choices, panel railings that are pre-cut to the required size can also be very simple to DIY.

Wood and metal are the two most common materials used. Breaking it down further, homeowners tend to use a slightly higher grade of wood than they might elsewhere—it isn’t uncommon to see maple, mahogany, redwood, and other luxury woods used. Metal tends to be aluminum or steel due to the fact that you don’t need very protective metal, as the material isn’t being subjected to any weather.

The standard dimensions for a stair's rise (vertical height) and run (tread depth) depend on whether it is in a residential or commercial building. For residential buildings, the International Residential Code (IRC) and International Building Code (IBC) specify a maximum riser height of 7 3/4 inches (with a minimum of 4 inches) and a minimum tread depth of 10 inches. Additionally, the maximum total rise of a staircase should not exceed 12 feet between landings. For fixed stairs in commercial buildings, OSHA requires a rise between 6 and 7.5 inches and a run between 10 and 14 inches. Standards for other types, such as spiral staircases, will differ.

Annually, to check for structural stability, surface wear, and secure fittings.

The proper height for a stair riser or deck step is between four and seven inches, with seven inches often considered the most comfortable. Building your stairs to this height ensures a strain-free step position and minimizes the risk of trip and fall injuries. For optimal safety and comfort, especially on deck stairs, a rise of around seven inches should be paired with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. While it is possible to design stairs with risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. Always check with your local building codes, as they may mandate specific dimensions that differ from these general recommendations.
