"Zykan was A+ from start to finish. I developed a problem on a Saturday and it was repaired by the following Monday. Jim, Will and Wilson the roofer were all great. Any future needs I have for exterior work will be with this company. Kevin Slaten really knows what hes talking about! Carpe Diem to Zykan! My wife now is happy again that her new kitchen doesn't have brown spots on the ceiling from a leak."

"I had them again. That company was great. They showed up when they were supposed to. They were just pretty. He was here two days. It was the ceiling my sunroom, he had to do some and let it dry. Then, come back the next day. I don't know what it's called, it was hanging down, he had to really almost had to almost go from scratch. He did a lot of work there. I didn't get any other prices, I didn't try to get anybody else because they're reliable, the kind of people you can leave in your house when you are gone, so I didn't look for anybody else. I really don't have any problems with them."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

When steaming falls short, consider utilizing a commercial texture remover tailored for popcorn ceiling removal. Adhere closely to the manufacturer's guidelines and conduct a preliminary test in an inconspicuous spot to verify compatibility with your ceiling. This specialized product offers an alternative solution for stubborn texture removal, potentially streamlining the process while safeguarding the integrity of your ceiling surface. Remember, products like these may be high-VOC, so wear protective gear.

The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. You’ll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then, you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife. This method works best with unpainted walls since paint prevents water from saturating the textured joint compound.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.

Older textures may contain asbestos, requiring careful handling and professional inspection before work begins to ensure safety compliance.

Popcorn ceilings have fallen out of popularity due to their outdated appearance, difficult maintenance, and potential health risks. Ceilings installed before the 1990s may contain asbestos, which poses a serious health hazard if disturbed. As design trends have shifted towards sleeker, more modern finishes, many homeowners now favor smoother ceilings that offer a cleaner look and easier upkeep.

However, popcorn ceilings do offer some benefits, such as acoustic dampening and the ability to hide imperfections. Some people also appreciate their retro charm or find them to be a cost-effective option. Ultimately, whether a popcorn ceiling is 'bad' depends on personal preference, safety concerns, and the overall aesthetic of the home.
