"If you are looking for any improvements to your property USE MIDWEST RETAINING WALLS! We have a wonderful stone retaining wall now and a creative fire pit and a beautiful stone stairway down our hill that all looks perfect together! The quality is unbeatable and the service wonderful. This group of guys hits it hard and are a joy to also be around. If I could give 10 stars I would! There were so many things Caleb did to keep our other property unharmed. Bottom line... THEY CARE ABOUT YOU, YOUR PROPERTY AND YOUR PROJECT. There is a lot to be said about keeping with a company this size. I feel you get better quality at a more reasonable price. If you need a reference after this post you may get our number from Caleb and we would be happy to talk to you! Thank you all for the great new backyard!"

"Scott did fantastic work for us, I was having issues getting someone to even come out and give me a bid. Got in contact with him and he was out immediately. Originally wanted him to put in a drain system for our yard and bury down spouts. And come to find out was able to just hire him to do everything we needed done. Concrete slab he poured, the draining system and a really nice retaining wall. Guess the old saying for what you get is true. We paid little more than what we originally wanted but was totally worth the extra expense with Scott and his guys. Great group of guys fun to be around, polite on time and took our ideas into consideration. Would highly recommend using him to anyone! Give him a call people!!!!"

Fountains questions, answered by experts

Algae growth is a common issue for misters, but you can do several things to prevent it. First, use a sealed water tank with distilled or filtered water to fuel your misters. Second, blow out the misters after every use so no water is left in the tubing. Third, thoroughly clean the misting system every several weeks of use at minimum during the warmest months. Third, wherever possible positioning tubing and the water tank away from direct sunlight and in the coolest areas possible.

Consider the pros and cons of installing a water fountain in your backyard:

Pros

  • Fountains can add beauty to your backyard.

  • Creates a relaxing space to enjoy in your yard.

  • Water features can add more value to your home.

Cons

  • Regular maintenance is necessary.

  • Upfront and maintenance costs can escalate quickly.

  • Space may not permit you to install the fountain you want.

While they’re popular and have a lot of pros, the cons of river rocks include the following:

  • River rocks don’t break down or provide nutrients to plants.

  • These stones can get hot and scorch nearby plants.

  • River stones may heat the surrounding soil to inhospitable temperatures.

  • Rocks can block rainwater from seeping into the ground if installations are too thick or tightly packed.

Most downsides occur when using river rock as mulch in gardens and flower beds. However, you can still incorporate river rocks into your landscape as long as you use them in the correct ways.

Installing an outdoor water fountain costs $2,700 on average, not including the cost of the unit. Prices range from $150 to $10,650, depending on your location, the type of fountain, size, and accessibility to the site. Self-contained fountains and water features recirculate the water within the unit. Depending on size and features like multi-tiered cascading bowls, they typically cost from $50 to $5,000. More elaborate fountains with waterfalls and ponds can cost from $450 to $10,000 or more.

Most outdoor water fountains and features do not use a lot of electricity, typically consuming between 100 and 250 watts per day. The size of the fountain's motor can impact its overall electricity usage. To reduce energy consumption, you can use a timer to automatically turn the fountain off at night or when you are away from home. Additionally, installing solar power components can help lower electricity costs after the initial investment is recouped.
