"Most stressful situation and experience ever. Upon getting four different estimates, I decided to go with four season landscaping because he was a little bit less expensive. On July 22, he delivered the materials that he needed for the priject. So on July 23. He started the job. He did the trench work and started to put the lines in and the next two days after he finished installing the lines and the sprinkler heads and installed the system in the garage. I asked him about an invoice if I had any receipt or anything that he could give me and told him he never provided me with that and I had already paid the first half cash for the project , in which he told me the price for five zones six zones and seven zones. We decided to do six zones so I paid him $2500 and I was gonna give him the other 2000 when the job was done. That’s how he wanted to be paid which I agreed to. So when the job was done first of all, I noticed that I couldn’t get zone six to come on so I messaged him that evening and said where is zone six and he said you don’t have *** zones you have five zones and I replied to him I paid you for six zones. How are we gonna handle this because you owe me for a zone that wasn’t installed. I told him I was gonna make a verbal complaint to Angie’s list if he didn’t pay me back after a week had passed. and in two weeks, he finally did reimburse me for the extra zone that I overpaid him for. So the second day that I operated the irrigation system, I was trying to set the sprinkler heads up, so they would go in the right direction and I noticed that a couple of my sprinkler heads were placed flush against my foundation in the back so I asked him to come out and move a couple and then I also asked him on several occasions why the backflow box was placed in the front yard in the center and I could not find the water meter metal plate in which he buried with dirt so I had to find the water meter metal lid And in the process with all of the attempts to have him come move the backflow box in a different area due to pooling of water in the area , that probably because he didn’t level the dirt or anything. It was very sloppy. It needed more soil and the box raised up so I left some topsoil out in the driveway cause I knew he was gonna move the one sprinkler head that was against my foundation and put it in the correct spot and he used one bag of oil and it still looked horrible, it looked very bad it was just done unprofessionally and he didn’t care what it looked like. I had to try to move the soil a little and eventually found the water line: the metal plate under all the dirt. The location of the back flow box was stressing me out and I was really worried about it and so I kind of wanted the box moved to a different area and in the meantime, he had mentioned to me he would have to have his other guy who he referred to as his backflow guy move the box and he never came out so I went ahead and just asked him questions about this gentleman. Did he have a license? Why did he put the box where he put it and why was my metal plate buried? I couldn’t find the water meter plate. He told me Word for Word you worry too much. Everything is fine so asking him several questions about that box and if the gentleman had a license to do the backflow, he had me a little bit worried because he said no I’ll have to find out. I will ask him if he has a license so I decided to just forget about it and hire somebody else to do that to make sure that it was installed properly cause I was very nervous through the whole project. So my final issue then was looking out in the yard. I have several areas probably at least four areas that are not getting any water at all because he should’ve put in six zones and another issue that I have is there is three sprinkler heads that are right on my property line so I’m not able to put up a fence until those are moved and one of the sprinkler heads in the far back corner of my yard is flush up against The drain site. it’s a cement drain system and it’s right up next to that so I can’t put a fence around it if I tried so I did not want to use this man’s service again because the experience was so horrible and I had to message him back-and-forth back-and-forth and then to top it off. He was very inappropriate messaging me sometimes late at night asking me if we could be friends. He was very unprofessional. He was very inappropriate and I told him you installed my sprinkler system leave it at that so I blocked him from my phone. The only reason I agreed to use text messaging instead of Angie’s list in the beginning was because I figured it would be easier for us to communicate if we had questions, but then I went ahead and continued using Angie’s list because I was having trust issues with this gentleman and several concerns. I decided to hire another company to fix this project and install more sprinkler heads as well as move some of the sprinkler heads that are not allowing me to put up a fence which is gonna cost me $3200. I have the quote or estimate from this company This gentleman with four seasons is the most unprofessional inappropriate person I’ve ever met. I had to block him from my phone because he would not stop texting me and all I had to tell him was you did a job for me and that done. One final concern is The name of his business. He uses a name that is very similar to another MUCH LARGER COMPANY THAT IS CALLED FOUR SEASONS LAWN AND LANDSCAPING. it’s very deceiving and I thought that was the company I was hiring to do my project. I was nervous until the project was completed. If you want to call it completed. If I ever use Angie’s List again I will do much more homework. I trusted this company and all I got was stress and grief. I truly wish I could get all the labor money back and the cost of the cheap sprinkler heads that I’m also replacing when I have my sprinklers moved and another zone installed. Please do not keep this man on Angie’s List so he can’t do this to anyone else. He’s a scam and deceitful and unprofessional and does sloppy careless work. Thank you for taking my complaint and concerns. I hope you take th serious and remove this company from Angie’s List. P.s. he even tried giving me his wife’s business card who does house cleaning for a business. I told him no thank you."

FAQs for mulch and topsoil service projects in Independence, MO

Topsoil costs from $12 to $55 per cubic yard, depending on the type you choose. For example, screened black dirt will cost about $15 per cubic yard. Loam (soil composed of sand, silt, and clay) costs about $17 per cubic yard. Standard screened topsoil costs about $20 per cubic yard. The type of topsoil you need depends on your landscaping plans.

Mulch costs anywhere from $30 to $150 per cubic yard, depending on the type you choose. On the inexpensive end, red and black mulch are about $35 to $40 per cubic yard, and are typically made from recycled waste wood like shredded old pallets or deck material. Cedar, cypress, and rubber mulch cost anywhere from $100 to $120 per cubic yard. A pro can help you determine the type of mulch most suitable for your landscaping needs.

Topsoil should go down first. If the topsoil is next to your house, make sure the grade slopes away from the house to keep water from pooling against your foundation and possibly leaking into your basement or crawl space. Don’t cover your decorative landscape mulch with topsoil as that defeats the purpose of laying down the mulch. If you’re trying to create a certain soil composition to improve plant growth, you’ll likely want compost mixed into the topsoil instead of mulch. Over time, any decorative wood mulch will simply decompose under the topsoil.

No, mulch itself does not necessarily attract termites even though it’s usually made of shredded wood. Some types of mulch like cedar or cypress resist termites because they’re toxic or unappetizing to the wood munchers. However, when the mulch is deep enough, say three inches or more, it creates a perfect habitat for insects of all kinds to build nests.

Although it’s not required to lay anything under mulch, it can help to put landscape fabric or plastic weed barrier down and lay mulch on top. The barrier helps keep weeds from growing up through your mulch. It also helps keep rodents and insects from burrowing into the ground underneath.
