"I've been doing business with her for 25 years. I've been one of her customers. She listens to the customer, she listens to suggestions. She would help me make good decisions. As far as listening to what I wanted, the end result. She just tries to make sure she gets what the customer wants ...bedspreads, drapery. I'm very happy with her. Over 25 years there's been a lot of work she's done. Our house, I don't want to brag, but it's gorgeous. Very individual."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

It is often worthwhile to refinish or restore furniture, especially for high-quality, older, antique, or sentimental pieces. Older furniture tends to have better durability than modern, mass-produced items, and refinishing can cost about one-third of the price of replacement. To determine if it's cost-effective, compare quotes from local refinishing services with the price of a new, similar piece. Refinishing can refresh a piece's look and extend its lifespan. However, it may not be worth it for newer furniture made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or plywood, or for items with major structural damage. A professional can help you assess the piece and decide on the best course of action.

Consider durability, color, texture, room use, and personal style when selecting fabric. Fabrics like linen, cotton, or microfiber offer versatility and strength.

Costs depend on fabric choice, furniture size, cushioning, and labor. For significant projects, expect estimates between $350 and $1,200.

Yes, you can reupholster antique furniture, and it’s a great way to extend the life of your pieces and keep them looking fresh and new for years to come. In fact, since reupholstering furniture is significantly more affordable than replacing it, reviving antique furniture can be a cost-effective way to keep that family heirloom usable for much longer. It’s usually a good idea to leave antique reupholstering to a professional, as they will have the tools and expertise to ensure the piece isn’t damaged and looks professionally finished.

Yes, many custom builders offer finishing and upholstery options tailored to your style.
