"Mr. Perine did an excellent job restoring my deck. He took time to address all my concerns regarding both the work to be done at the time and future maintenance. The work was well planned and accomplished in a timely manner. Each day all debris was removed, and I was informed as to when he would return. Both, the customer service and work performed, exceeded my expectations."

"They were extremely kind and helpful in working with me as I navigated trying to restore and repair the deck on my parents' house that I had inherited. Not only were they very communicative, but were prompt and showed up when they said they would (which was very appreciative as someone with a busy schedule). The quality of work and professionalism was top tier, and my brother and I are very pleased with the outcome of the project and how our 20+ year old deck now looks relatively new. Costs were upfront and there were no hidden charges or fees upon completion. We would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for power washing and deck resealing/minor repair, and would definitely use them again for any powerwashing needs."

Small jobs welcome

"I did receive a couple bids from Home Advisors network and decided on Midwest due to the owner (Joe) stating that all my needs would be addressed which was to power wash all concrete and paver surfaces including retaining walls. He guaranteed that his price included all that I asked for with "no surprises" and I have that via email. I also was seeking a company that would be able to seal my pavers upon completion. Joe was confident that he could do all the work. What I discovered is that he had not come over to physically look at the job and relied on satellite technology which evidently did not thoroughly show all retaining walls and surfaces and how dirty they were. Hence, there was a little more work involved than what was expected which definitely did not fall on my shoulders as to if he surveyed the area by walking it before bidding. Joe's partner, Steve, did all the work and spent an entire day cleaning my very dirty concrete and paver surfaces. He put the work in but there were areas that were not situated where the dirt could drain somewhere beyond the concrete and pavers, so he just left it set on the pavers. I also didn't like that I could see exactly where he had power washed by the "water pressure strokes" on the surfaces which meant that if I could see the strokes, that implied that between the strokes dirt had been left. Those spots I had pointed out to Steve on the initial day but he said that the rain would fix them. I was also amazed that a power washing company would not have brooms to push dirty water to a drain or a hose to hose off fences, posts or whatever that had been badly soiled with the power washing. Even with all these issues that I believe a professional service would do better, the job definitely cleaned my surfaces and it looks a whole lot better; just not as good as I was hoping since this is a professional service. They did not use any cleansers on areas that had spots nor sand to fill in areas that the power wash efforts pulled up between the pavers. I contacted Joe to do some "redo" on a few spots that needed to be redone before he could apply sealant and two weeks later they were able to return and fix those issues. At that time I got to experience Joe's true business sense. He was so busy validating his work and not even giving me five minutes to share with him my perspective, and he came in the yard very defensive even though we hadn't ever met. He immediately told me that he would not be able to do the sealing job and that I would have to find someone else. He didn't say why but it was obvious that he was defensive and already negative on me and my expectations although they were valid and he did see them and took care of them. I took pictures and I wish that I could attach them here so that others could see what they thought was the finished work PRIOR TO the rework and why they needed to be addressed. The finish work does look great but Joe's approach to try to belittle or diminish others is not professional nor appreciated when it comes to customer support. When they were finished he didn't thank me for the business nor say that they believe they are good to go. I would not recommend this company more so because of the owner's attitude. They sound good but don't ask them to fix something because then they get unpleasant and just tell you that they gave you a good deal and they think the work is great.... nothing to do with how the customer feels or believes. Also they will cancel a phase of the work (such as my sealing) without hesitating or providing you with an explanation. Looking back on other reviews, I realize now that many of them are for cleaning gutters/downspouts and not power washing concrete/pavers and retaining walls or large projects such as what I had."

"Matt and his crew were excellent to work with. They took an older, damaged deck and made it look new again. Went above and beyond the original bid. Even built a custom door to match the deck. Highly recommended."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

A random orbital sander is best for sanding a deck because it is easier to handle than other power sanders and is less likely to damage the wood. Most decks are made of types of softwood, so a gentler sanding process is essential to prevent permanent blemishes. For example, belt sanders can gouge softwoods.

Any wood deck provides some ventilation to the area below, as is the nature of that type of deck design. However, areas that experience excessive humidity and associated moisture benefit greatly from a dedicated ventilation system in the form of strip vents. This addition helps the various wood boards contract and expand evenly throughout the years and reduces the chances of twisting, warping, and buckling.

Yes, it is possible to add an under-deck drainage system to an existing deck by retrofitting it to the structure. This process may require some prep work. For example, many drainage systems are installed on top of the deck joists, which would require you to remove the decking boards and railings first. To avoid this, you could opt for a below-the-joist drainage system. For best results and to ensure proper installation, it is recommended to consult a professional. A pro can inspect your deck, make any necessary repairs, and then install the drainage system correctly.

The best and fastest way to remove paint from a deck often involves combining a chemical stripper with a pressure washer. Gel-based paint strippers are highly recommended because their thick consistency makes them less messy and easier to apply than liquid strippers. After applying the stripper to loosen the paint, you can use a pressure washer to efficiently wash away the residue. When using a pressure washer for this task, it's important to use a low pressure (under 1000 PSI) to avoid forcing too much moisture into the wood, which could lead to mildew or rot.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation or substructure for support. This base is typically a frame composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame can be built from various materials, such as composite, plastic, timber, or metal, depending on your budget, deck type, and environmental conditions. For maximum stability, a professional deck builder may recommend installing this frame on top of a solid concrete base. It is best to discuss the most suitable substructure design and materials for your specific project with a professional.
