We verified with another company that he did indeed install the wrong orifices that destroyed the furnace thus making the warranty for the original furnace null and void. The P-trap (or S-trap in older homes) under your shower is designed to prevent sewer gas from coming back up, so you shouldn’t normally experience foul odors coming from your shower drain. If you do, the vent stack that introduces air into your plumbing system may be clogged, or you may have a more severe sewer main blockage. In either case, hire a plumber to fix the issue for you.

Conventional drain cleaners, like you might buy at the grocery store, use bleach (sodium hydroxide) as the main ingredient. On the contrary, biodegradable drain cleaners use gentler ingredients such as baking soda, vinegar, and boiling water to clear out drains. 

Bleach is extremely corrosive and releases harmful gasses—hence the need for wearing safety protections like rubber gloves, eye goggles, face masks, and long sleeves and properly ventilating the room while using bleach. Biodegradable cleaners, however, don’t use bleach. Therefore they are safer to use, especially if you have a house full of children.

To get rid of a sewer smell in your crawl space, you’ll have to find the source of the problem. If it has to do with your sewer lines, then repairing the line will help. You may need to make other repairs, like fixing your sump pump or encapsulating your crawl space to reduce moisture. After you make the repair, depending on the issue, you may still need to clean out your crawl space to get rid of the stink.
