"Gentleman who owns Solarize was professional and courteous. He communicated well with the manufacturer and convinced them that a replacement inverter was needed based on the data he saw and the manufacturer had seen. It's what we were hoping for."

"I had a seamless experience working with Josh & Shane! I’ve spoke with multiple companies, just shopping around, and this company was by far the most friendly and professional! What sold me was that these guys are local, extremely knowledgeable, and had the best price around! I would recommend this company to everyone ready to go solar!"

"I got a few quotes for a rooftop solar electric system. Power Sync Solar gave me a quote that matched expectations based on my research. They were significantly lower than the guys who advertise on TV. Andrea and Jonathan are professional, knowledgeable, good communicators and very easy to work with. They got the system installed quickly working 10 hours on some days. Although they are based out of Joplin, they have done multiple installations in Benton County and have contact with a local electrician who does the Benton County permit-compliant electrical hook-ups. After the installation, Andrea continued to answer my questions as I saw the system in action. Great customer support. I am a numbers guy and like to see estimates and data from other solar sites. Power Sync Solar was very cooperative in that as well. Douglas Bell, Ph.D."

"Kameron was my sale person with 3D Solar., While I was close to getting my solar working the original company I did Solar with went out of business, so my system was not fully turned on. Kameron at 3DSolar helped walk me through what was left to complete, helped me complete all the paperwork required by the electrical company and we got permission to operate (PTO). Now I have power that my door panels are produced and my electric bill dropped to almost nothing!!"

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

Although solar panels harness the sun's power, they come at an environmental cost. The manufacturing process requires large amounts of water and involves hazardous materials like cadmium, silicon, and gallium arsenide. These materials don’t pose safety hazards while the panels are in use but can pose a problem when left in landfills. Over time, hazardous materials can leach into the environment. This is why recycling solar panels whenever possible is better than taking them to landfills.

For most U.S. homeowners, switching to solar energy is an excellent investment. A properly sized solar array can significantly reduce your electric bill, saving money on utilities every month. Most homeowners enjoy savings that cover the cost of their solar systems within 12 years and then turn a profit. Additionally, federal and state tax incentives are available that help make solar an even better and more profitable investment.

You can install solar panels on a flat or pitched roof, but keep in mind that they will need to rest at a 30- to 50-degree tilt for optimal sun absorption. It costs more to install solar panels on a flat roof because you will need to install a framing system and likely hire a structural engineer. If your roof has a pitch of more than 40 degrees, it may not be a good candidate for solar panels.

Yes, it is possible to install solar panels on a tar and gravel roof, but it is not the ideal roofing material for a solar installation. The process requires roof penetrations to install the solar racking system. While installers will seal these penetrations, they still increase the risk of leaks. This risk is higher on tar and gravel roofs, which are often flat. Flat roofs are more prone to leaks than sloped roofs because they can pool water during heavy rain and hold snow for longer periods, exposing the roof to more moisture.

In most states, solar installers need to be licensed and insured as solar professionals, although some states don’t have specific requirements for installers. You can use our state licensing tool to check if an installer you’re considering hiring holds the proper licensing. No matter where you live, a member of your solar panel installation company must be a certified electrician to connect your panels to your home and the electric grid.
