"It went great! No drips or mess. The door looks beautiful! I wouldn't expect anything less from Justin. He's very meticulous. I have him in my phone whenever I need anything done. When he was here before, he painted the exterior of my front entry door. Beautiful! He and his team repaired a section of deck railing. Great job!"

"Worked very well with Nick . He got the job done as contracted in an efficient manner, and it looks great. He also went out of his way to make sure the project went well and at a fair price. I’d definitely use Young Renovator’s for fire projects. Great job!!"

"We worked with 'Monroe'. He was really good. Built a new porch, replacing the old porch, with 'wrap a round'. He did a really good job, even made a ramp for my husband. he does a really good job. Even moved our washer and dryer upstairs. I already recommend him! My son was also very impressed with his work."

"John is just starting to work for us. He is friendly and has been very helpful in helping us complete our project. We had a bad experience with another contractor and Donco Construction is willing to help get us back on track. They are working very hard to help correct the problems Ben Semchee has caused. The crew is great and we are very happy. Donco also is finishing the addition and corrected the framing problems. The framing issues we had may have contributed to the drywall issue that have occured later in the project but I think the drywall has issues that Donco Construction has not fixed. waiting for them to come back."

Dock Building and Repair questions, answered by experts

In most areas, dock builders need some type of license. In some states, only a general construction license might be necessary, while a marine construction license is required in others. You can check online to see which is mandatory in your area, and then you can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to make sure the company holds the proper license. Since dock construction is inherently dangerous, confirm with your builder that they are fully insured for everyone’s protection.

You will likely need a permit to build a new dock or add to an existing one, especially if it's a permanent structure. Permit requirements vary by location, as they are typically set by local municipalities, counties, or cities rather than states. You should check with your local government or building department to determine what paperwork is required before you begin. In many areas, you may need multiple permits, including general construction permits and those designed to protect local marine life. Additionally, if you are part of a homeowner's association (HOA), they may have their own rules regarding docks, such as minimum distances between neighboring docks. It's best to check with all relevant authorities (city, county, HOA) to ensure you are in compliance. A professional dock builder can often handle the permit-pulling process for you.

Cedar wood is the best choice for a hardwood dock, as it is rot-resistant and does well in the water. Pressure-treated pine and spruce are two other solid options. Alternately, composite or waterproof plastic are materials commonly used for docks, and are frequently used in prefabricated kits.

When deciding how big of a dock you can build, you should check with your city and state for any restrictions. Some cities won’t allow docks larger than one-fourth of the width of a body of water, while others have no restrictions at all. Gather this information when you apply for your permits so you can plan the build accordingly.

The length your dock can be will differ greatly depending on your location. Some localities will have rules; for example, some areas won't allow you to build a dock that is more than one-fourth of the width of a body of water. Other areas won't have any rules on length at all.
