"I hired Randy for several projects around my house. Exterior trim repair/replacement, front railing repair, exterior painting, interior painting, window screen replacement and installation of two storm doors. He delivered quality work and finished everything in a timely manner. Highly recommend."

"It went great. Mike shored up the old building until I'm ready for a full restoration. Now I can use it without worrying that it might collapse. He put braces along the front and the side (the two main directions it was leaning), and did it in a way that allows me to still pull my truck in with plenty of room. And he did it all by himself. All the guys from Handybeards that have done work for me have been great."

"Stephen was very professional. They arrived on time every day, and always asked questions each step of the way to ensure we were happy with the outcome. When we didn't like the cabinets that were picked out for either side of the fireplace, Stephen custom built ones to our liking. We were very please with his services, would definitely hire him again."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

Rather than using a common two-by-four piece of wood for a rafter, you probably will use two-by-six, two-by-eight, two-by-ten, or even two-by-twelve boards. Wider lumber is typically a better choice in a larger building as it provides more sturdiness. Some installers may use wider lumber for rafters near the edges of the roof, where the greatest stress occurs, and save money with narrower lumber toward the middle.

Building a barndominium means converting a barn into a house. Barndominiums are becoming popular as spacious and stylish alternatives to typical housing structures. Old barns that become houses traditionally consist of wooden construction. However, newer structures, such as pole barns, often contain metal exteriors and roofs. Converting a metal outbuilding into a house presents an excellent opportunity to create a barndominium from metal.

While prices fluctuate because of increased demand, fewer supplies, and engineering time, OSB generally remains more affordable than plywood at $1 to $2.40 per square foot compared to the $4.50 to $10 for plywood. Cost is only one factor you should consider when deciding between OSB and plywood.

Your chicken coop needs to be off the ground to protect your chickens and avoid problems brought on by flooding, mud, and moisture. If you can't locate a high area to build the coop, you should build an elevated coop to ensure it stays dry.

Ranch and colonial-style homes are often the most affordable to build. They have a common layout with available designs that are easy to adjust in simple ways without having to spend too much on a structural engineer or architect. Both types of homes' symmetry, simple roofs, and often one or two-story plans mean they often fall in the $150 to $200 square-foot range, putting them right around average.
