"When I called this company, I got my appointment with them right away - like within two day. I thought I was making an appointment for a consultation, but a wonderful man named Sam arrived exactly on time, and said he could install my new metal awning over my back door right then and there. He was respectful of me and the awning materials. (He assembled them on the grass so he would not scratch anything, he said.) He said he had installed hundreds of these awnings, and certainly knew what he was doing. He had all the tools and materials to install the awing right then and there. He was finished in way less time than I thought it would take. Other companies I called said it would take two people to install that awning, and wanted more money to put it up than I had paid for the awning in the first place. Another company said they could not attach it to stucco, etc. I am very, very pleased with this company, with Sam, with his efficiency, and his personableness. He even hauled away the cardboard in which the awing had come. I would highly this company for all the reason I mentioned. Thank you very much."

"I found him hard to work with (e.g. doesn't listen, pushy about doing it his way.) I was really hesitant after the estimate but he just kept pushing about it and I didn't have any other options - but I was sorry afterwards. I don't really like it, the quality doesn't seem great - but most important, it's not level. Drives me crazy and looks bad - just three panels and it's not level! Makes me nuts looking at it - feels like I threw my money away."

"I was looking for someone to build a new set of stairs that led to my back patio. Carter called me back immediately to discuss what I was looking for. He explained what product options were available, the timeframe for completion and the price. He kept me updated as the project moved forward, called out any concerns, and made sure the project was completed to my satisfaction."

"Generally very good, although some potentially avoidable delays. Initially not very good at updating us, but later got very prompt updates. All good people to work with as were the recommended subcontractors. Very happy with our porch."

Awnings FAQs, answered by experts

The longest-lasting awning materials include vinyl, polycarbonate, and polyester for their durability and cleanability. Other materials like canvas and metal can last a long time, but may wear out faster. The key to getting the longest life from your awning material is to maintain it properly by cleaning yearly, keeping debris from gathering on it, and protecting it during stormy weather or high winds by retracting it or moving it to a protected area.

Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:

  • Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire

  • Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning

  • Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings

  • Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust

  • Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option

  • Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage

Yes, awnings can add value to a home, primarily by boosting its curb appeal and providing more usable outdoor space. While the exact monetary return on investment depends on the awning's size, style, and quality, they offer an excellent appeal factor to potential buyers. For example, an awning with a trendy metal roof can be particularly attractive. Even if the direct increase in resale value is modest, a well-chosen awning enhances the home's functionality and aesthetic.

On average, awning costs range from $1,400 to $4,400. The low end of the cost range can be around $100 up to $7,500 on the high end. Cost factors include the type of awning, size, and location. Portable awnings are the most affordable and DIY-friendly to install, costing $100 to $400. Larger, motorized awnings tend to be more solidly built, ranging in price from $2,000 to $3,500.

Awnings offer a variety of materials to choose from, each of which has its own benefits. Cotton is a lower-cost option that’s also more eco-friendly because it’s made from natural materials, while acrylic-coated polyester and vinyl offer better durability against harsh weather. Fiberglass and metal are also resilient to weather, although metal can be vulnerable to corrosion without protective sealant. Ultimately, you’ll need to consider your climate and your budget in deciding the best material for your awning.
