Since 1883 McQuillan Home Services has been Minnesota’s Original plumbing, heating, and cooling company. At McQuillan we’ve always remained true to our mission of providing solid, honest work to all our customers. Join the McQuillan Home Services family as we continue to raise the bar and provide generations of happy customers with quality plumbing, heating, AC, electrical, and drains service.
"Oh, how I wish there were a grade lower than F. McQuillan managed to provide both poor customer service *and* bad technical work. The company came out to do a full replacement of our A/C unit and furnace, switching to minisplits and a boiler/radiator system. The minisplit side of the equation went just fine. The rest has been a disaster. This all started the first week of August, so they would have plenty of time to get the work done before winter...so we thought. Instead the installed the boiler incorrectly, causing it to make loud noises and not actually provide any hot water. After calling five times and having two missed appointments, they finally sent out a plumber who informed us that it was so badly screwed up, an entire crew would have to come out and fix it (which they eventually did, two whole weeks later). It took three people nine hours (!!) to fix whatever they did wrong. Now on to the radiators. Several were backordered to the first week of September, obviously not their fault. Once they called us to say the new radiators were ready for installation, they couldn't "fit us into their schedule" for three more weeks! When they did show up, we found one radiator completely missing, two ordered in the wrong finish, and several others that couldn't be installed because they didn't have the right parts and weren't sure how to get them (WHAT?). And, this is a minor issue compared to everything else, but they ask you to pay as you go, so every time someone shows up they want to collect money. Multiple times we've asked to see an itemized bill so we know what all our payments have gone to (this is a large job and we just want to keep track of everything), but we still have yet to see a single invoice or receipt of our payment. Which brings us to today. We're not currently on their schedule at all. Half of our radiators are installed, but none are active on the system, so we have no heat. It's early October, and the temperature tonight is supposed to reach 35 with a frost warning (which is one things for my husband and I, but we also have three kids under the age of 6). We've called multiple times the past two days and no one will call or email us back to tell us when we are actually going to have heat. I'm extremely close to reporting them to the BBB and calling a different company to finish the job so we can stay warm. I wouldn't wish McQuillan on my worst enemy."

Typically, under-cabinet lighting costs about $265 on average, ranging from $230 to $300, depending on the type of lights, fixtures, and amount of electrical work required. Additional cost factors include the removal of old lighting, energy costs related to the type of light bulbs, and the replacement of light bulbs as they burn out.
Here are the average lighting costs by type:
LED Puck Lights: $25 per fixture
LED Strip Lights: $20 per 8-foot strip
Xenon Fixtures: $50 per unit
Fluorescent Lighting: $12 to $50 per unit
On average, the cost to install a light fixture is about $550, ranging from about $160 to $950, depending on the number of lights and the type of light bulbs and fixtures. You should consider other cost factors like your home’s location, electrical and drywall work required to install the fixture, and removal of old fixtures when creating a budget for this project. Keep in mind that replacing a light fixture typically costs less than installing one for the first time.
Recessed lighting installation costs about $360 on average, with a typical price range between $100 and $480, depending on labor cost in your area, required wiring, and the type of bulb. The cost to hire an electrician to install recessed lighting is typically $200 to $250 per fixture. If your electrical pro charges per hour, expect to pay $85 to $105 per hour for this service. Other cost factors include:
Ceiling material
Housing type
Trim type
Bulb type
Materials
Accessibility
Permits
You should hire a licensed electrician who is insured to perform any electrical work on your home, including lighting installation. States have different requirements for licensing and certifying electricians, so use Angi’s state licensing tool to review local guidelines.
Here are a few questions to ask electricians before hiring:
How many years of electrical experience do you have?
Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?
Do you work with subcontractors?
Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?
What is the timeline for completion?
How do you handle change orders?
Can you provide at least three customer references?
Several types of light fixtures are available, each requiring different installation techniques. Keep in mind that you’ll need to hire a lighting specialist to install the majority of these fixture types.
Here are some of the most common light fixture options:
Ceiling-mounted fixtures: $90–$230
Pendant lights: $95–$250
Chandeliers: $300–$2,000
Track lighting: $100–$250
Wall-mounted lights: $90–$250
Fluorescent lights: $85–$220
Light bars: $330–$440
