"This review is for Brad Tree and Stump Removal located in Oak Park, MN. (Not sure how Yelp reviewers from all over the country are displayed for this company.) Brad was doing stump removal in our neighborhood and I walked over to request a quote. Not only was his price almost half of what other companies were quoting me, he offered to complete the work an hour later! I did state that I would do the cleanup/raking myself. Brad was friendly, a fast worker, and did a thorough job grinding 3 stumps in our back yard. On the largest tree he did grind out a couple of root extensions that had been pushing up the sod over the years. When he was done he also provided some helpful advice for finishing the cleanup work myself. I highly recommend this company if you have any tree service needs in the Twin City (MN) area and are interested in paying far less than most others companies."

"I had two large pine trees on opposite sides of my backyard removed. The work started around 9:30 including dropping power lines and was totally finished and cleaned up by 1:30. Very honest, courteous and professional owner <>< and worker. Kept me informed of progress . Did a nice job cleaning up all wood and debris. I thought the cost was very reasonable and was very satisfied with the work overall. I highly recommend New Life & Stump for tree removal. My only complication was that the access to my lake home back yard had to come thru a neighborâ  s front yard. The ground is soft and sandy and turf disturbance was just part of the deal. The front end loader made pretty deep tracks from the street to the back yard and will require some repair especially around the working area by the one of the trees. (Having replaced a septic field , knew what to expect.). So this is nothing against New Life & Stump. Just be aware of possible lawn damage, as with any heavy machinery."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The average lifespan of an oak tree is 100 to 300 years, so long as it isn’t impacted by diseases like sudden oak death. Some species will last shorter or longer, depending on where you live.

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

Many species, especially when well-established, are not fans of transplantation. You’ll need to decide if you want to risk splashing the cash, understanding that transplantation isn’t always successful. Again, this is where hiring a pro is helpful, as they can give you all the essential info you need to ensure your tree stands a fighting chance.

Not every arborist climbs trees, but most will do so if that’s the best method for assessing or treating a tree. Arborists have a variety of tree climbing gear and safety equipment to choose from when climbing trees. Consult your local arborist about their tree-climbing plan if your service requires that type of task.

The ideal depth of a tree notch depends on the tree, but it should usually be between 20% and 25% of the tree’s depth. However, if the tree is leaning towards the direction of the notch, it can be cut more shallowly—at as little as 10% of the depth. When the tree is leaning away from the direction it needs to be felled, you can cut deeper, closer to 30%.
