Lost Lake Construction is a veteran-owned company based in northern Minnesota. I'm Dave Berry — I've spent 20+ years in the trades and run a crew of four, so we handle everything from a single afternoon's work to a full-scale build.\nBig job or small, we do it: junk removal and hauling, landscaping and yard cleanup, brush clearing, kitchen and bath remodels, basement finishing, decks, siding, roofing, concrete, painting, and general handyman work. We also specialize in custom fine finish carpentry, log construction, and standing seam metal roofing — the kind of work most crews around here won't take on.\nI'm a licensed Minnesota Residential Building Contractor (BC809295) and fully insured. "I have known Doug for about 8 years and has done work for me on and off with his boys, who are great kids. When they do a job they do it very professional. When they get started on a project and they do it well. If something is not right he comes back and takes care of it right away. If he plants a tree and it dies, he the first to take a look and address what happened."

Lawns FAQs, answered by experts

According to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, there are over 10,000 kinds of mushrooms, and some are harmful to both humans and animals. However, not all mushrooms are harmful—some feed on thatch and wood, which provides nutrients for grass and plants.

But unless you’re a mushroom expert (mycologist), it can be hard to tell poisonous mushrooms from non-poisonous. So if you have kids or pets (or both), removing them is the safest route to take.

Yes, it's perfectly safe and environmentally sound to mulch leaves with a lawn mower, provided that the layer of leaves isn't too thick and the leaves are dry and crispy. Too many wet leaves get sticky and will clog the mower. Thick layers of leaves can suffocate the lawn after the leaves have been mulched, so the layer should be no more than six inches thick.

Leaf removal, aeration, dethatching, mowing, pruning, and fertilizing are activities that prepare lawns for the next season.

If you don’t remove a bush properly, it’ll come back each year. Removing the root system entirely is the only way to ensure the plant doesn’t have a chance to grow back. You can also use natural weed killers or you can choose to suppress the area with landscaping fabric. Additionally, consider planting alternative, non-invasive vegetation to deter the return of thorn bushes.

Most mushrooms found on residential lawns are harmless. Certain varieties such as destroying angel, fly agaric, and vomiter mushrooms that can grow in grass will occasionally make their way onto residential lawn, but this is uncommon. Since mushrooms can be notoriously difficult to identify, if you suspect that your lawn mushrooms could be a poisonous type, consulting a professional is recommended.
