Small jobs welcome

Grew up as a rural, SW Minnesota farm boy. Husband, Dad, Pastor, Coffeehouse Owner, and All-Around Repair Man. Will work hard with character, integrity, and honesty. I'll fix it, clean it, remove it and get out of your way for you to enjoy your day or evening again, with your family, friends, and loved ones.\n\nQuick fixes, stressful messes, and leftover junk and demo work is what I love to help with. Depending on the size of the project, it may take me a few days, but it will all be done with as much excellence as possible.

"I found him hard to work with (e.g. doesn't listen, pushy about doing it his way.) I was really hesitant after the estimate but he just kept pushing about it and I didn't have any other options - but I was sorry afterwards. I don't really like it, the quality doesn't seem great - but most important, it's not level. Drives me crazy and looks bad - just three panels and it's not level! Makes me nuts looking at it - feels like I threw my money away."

"I found Steven while looking for someone local to help clean up my yard a bit. I don’t know much about the topic, besides mowing it every week or so. Steven was able to explain the different services he could provide me, based on my budget and needs, to help bring my yard back to life! Steven suggested weed pulling/whacking, edge trimming, hard/soft raking, and the classic mow. I went with some weed pulling up front, some trimming, and a mow. I was surprised how different my lawn looked after all of these cheap jobs, I just didn’t have the time to do! On top of that, he’s coming back next week to power wash the front of my house and my driveway! I’ll post pictures when it’s done :) very happy with the service, local, cheap, trustworthy work. Thumbs up!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

It’s best to prime composite decking before painting. This promotes better paint adhesion, helps create a smooth finish, and can mean the paint job will last longer. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, allow ample primer drying time before painting (typically 24 to 48 hours), and thoroughly clean the deck boards to promote the best adhesion.

Yes, and in some cases, frozen ground may improve the digging process for footings due to sturdier conditions. It’s easier than working in muddy conditions, which are more common in the spring. Contractors may use machinery that makes this step a breeze, so harder ground shouldn’t affect the building process.

There are several perks to building a deck around your inground or above-ground pool. Specifically, building a deck around a pool gives you space to lounge and sunbathe, easy access to monitor kids in the pool, extra room for entertaining and dining, an anti-slip surface for post-pool fun, and enhanced aesthetics.

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.

When installing deck boards, screws are generally a better option than nails. Screws offer superior holding strength over time, keeping the boards securely in place. In contrast, nails are more likely to pop out, which can create a tripping hazard. While you can use either, we recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws. To minimize the risk of cracking the wood, it's a good practice to drill small pilot holes before driving the screws into the deck joists.
