We contracted Home Pro America in the Fall of 2021. This hasn't gone well. Everyone was kind, but responsiveness has been horrific. I have had to push, push, push the entire time...and they still aren't done. The Project Manager begged me to sign off on the project as completed, even though there were many items still to correct. Guess what! There are still many items to correct! I signed off in good faith and took the PM's word. ALL THE FOOTINGS ARE CROOKED...and now I am being told they CAN'T just reinsert the helical piers into the ground, and that they will need to just detach my deck and shift the footings back TWO inches to make them straight. So, because they didn't do their job, I am stuck with a deck that's going to have a two-inch overhang. I can't even write the whole story here because there is too much to write, and I have posted pictures of some of the issues. Currently I have a list of over 20 items, such as missing crews, crooked rail posts, split wood due improper screw insertion, crooked screws, exposed screws, etc. This was emailed to the PM two weeks ago. We are over six months on this project, and we have already begun to pay our $30k loan.

We were in the market for rebuilding our deck in 2021. We decided to check this company out despite our better instincts that called for us to trust the reviews and not put a lot of weight on Angi offering them up repeatedly as an option. This did not go very far. We got a quote that, with a "20% discount," was over twice the other quotes we received. I don't know about the quality of work because we obviously went with one of the more reasonable quotes and, I might add, are very happy with the resulting deck. However, pricing that is in accord with the actual market is important and I would strongly recommend checking out compatibility in this regard before getting into any agreements.

First, the not-so-great: communication between the departments could have been better. If the master carpenter who built our deck knew we ordered lights in the steps, he would not have built the deck without them. Someone else had to partly dismantle the deck and insert the lights. If communication had been better, they could have saved themselves a trip and all that extra work. Still, they were cool about it and got it done. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, polite, and it seemed like they all wanted to do what they were doing. They were great about answering all our questions. They were also willing to accommodate the electrician we hired, who installed some underground wiring after the old deck was demolished. The end result looks magazine-spread amazing. Both deck and steps look modern, yet blend nicely with our 98 year old house. It is a HUGE improvement over what was there before. We started with a high, fenced deck done on the cheap and concrete stairs. Now, our stairs have a lovely brick overlay which leads to a larger floating deck. We are very happy with how it turned out. A couple caveats: they are extremely busy and in-demand, so your project may be pushed back a few months, depending on the season. If you do not hear from them in over a week, call them. They're good about giving updates, but you have to be proactive about it. About the cost: This company's work can get very expensive. We saw some work on their website that cost more than our house. Keep in mind, though, that you get what you pay for. Their costs may be high, but they are reasonable. the materials are top notch, and the builders know their craft. This is your *home*; you owe it to yourself to get the best builder you can possibly afford, so that the work is done well and built to last. I would recommend them, and would hire them again. Great job!

Chad was super helpful in our window selection process. Chad’s initial price quote was cheaper than the other companies 3rd price. Once we signed we had to literally do nothing, they took care of everything and Chad was easily accessible to answer our questions. I would’ve paid more for the convenience they provided. In the end we got top end Marvin Windows at great price. I’ve referred Chad multiple times since our window install and will call Chad in the future for any home improvement. New Deck is next

HomeProAmerica built a new composite deck, which turned out beautifully, they were timely, and cleaned up afterwards and our new deck is wonderful. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is that someone was suppose to come back and cover the exposed footings and we have not gotten a response from them since January 2021, after reaching out several times. The exposed footings look awful.

We have the nicest deck and screen porch that I have ever seen! The process went smoothly from the time Ben Torborg came out to go over our project with us and select materials, to completion. Yes it took a few weeks longer overall than we would have liked - in part due to high materials demand during the pandemic - but we are so happy with the results that it doesn’t matter. Matt, Dave and the work crews were fantastic, friendly and open to questions. The quality of the work and the finished product is undeniable. Our screen porch would be right at home in an upper bracket neighborhood, it is stunning! The attention to details is evident and the porch and expanded look like they are original to the home. We look forward to enjoying them for many years to come and would be happy to have Home Pro America quote any of our future projects.

Sales/design process - A+ - the sales process was by far better than any of the other 10 contractors with which I met. Rick was my rep, and he came with a Mac and material samples, and had a design and detailed quote - including options along the way - within an hour. He also came prepared with a portfolio of work completed. Scheduling - This process is difficult to measure due to the times we are in. My schedule was pushed, due to issues with materials and the permit. I would have liked a sooner start date, believed the delays were not within their control, and appreciated the communication with me during this process. I was given contact information for a few different escalation points, and was promptly answered. Project Execution - I am going to split this up between quality of work and the teams who showed up to do the build and overall project management. The teams who showed up were awesome. They worked hard, were respectful, were friendly, and were perfectionists - exactly what I want. I have been thrilled with the results. My deck is beautiful. Project Management - this was a weak area for me. Throughout the process, I had numerous sub contractors involved in the deck build. One company did the railing install, one did the demo and build, another did the gutter install, and an electrician is still scheduled to replace my deck outlets. With so many cooks in the kitchen, along with a few material order mistakes, there were many days where nobody showed up to work on the deck. I ended up with materials or dumpsters in my yard for many weeks. The overall project took nearly four weeks instead of the estimated one. My complaint was I felt like I got great responsiveness when I would reach out to see what was going on, but I had little proactive communication from the PM. As the job is nearly done, I feel like I am the one managing the outstanding loose ends.

Outcomes verse Output: Businesses today need to focus on Outcomes (customer experience) verses Output (the deck is build and meets code (although the city has not signed off on it yet but I doubt there will be any major issues). HPA failed at the outcome - to create a customer for life who would recommend their services to a neighbor or friend. Here is what I learned about recommendations on this and other home pro sites. 1) how long have they been in business - HPA 2016. 2) how many reviews and what year was it written. Upon re-review of their ratings I found some data point interesting. The early years, when they were probably smaller and paid more attention to detail, there were great reviews. These created what I would call a Halo effect and more of the lower rating are more recent. The sales person raved about their scores - but it was only part of the picture. 3) the owner told me that he never involves customers in the anything but the design and he really didn't need to consult will me on any remediation done to the deck. So let me explain: 3 -4 day deck still isn't final (hence the not approved by city) on week 7. Ok so stuff happens: 1) weather - get it 2) proj mgr comes out to inspect work when we were missing a board, wrong color on the stairs (TimberTech two tone deck), no railing, 4 boards cut short leaving too large of a gap, no lights... 3) I can live with all of this - it happens. But when we repeatedly asked to be communicated with like when are coming (we had a lot going on in the yard - landscapers, tree trimming, stump removal, fall clean up...) 4) Sales guy came out to do the final walk through - they asked for final payment - what would you assume that meant? That they were done. OK I Paid. After I sent the final payment. Then bunch came out to look at the deck including the owner. They did not call nor ask if this time was OK. I knew there would be a visit but no curiosity to call on timing? Then two days later a crew member was out sawing off the treated lumber beneath. I would have expected a call (even e-mail) saying: here is what we found, here is what we doing to fix it, here is when we will be there. CLEARLY too much to ask. This is when I was expressing my frustration to the owner that he told me I don't get to decide what happens to my project. Outcome - never again with HPA, I learned how to read these sites and look for better data points. Since the owner clearly talked over me and had no interest in my perspective, because in his opinion it was the wrong one, they will probably not change to be outcome based. IF they do - Good for them. If they don't expect the Halo to tarnish.

Customer service is the worst !! I have been in the customer service industry for 45 yrs and have to wonder how real the stellar reviews are. Sales rep Peter never returns phone call, Kelly R is an expert at giving you the run around with no intentions of doing anything. Brandon was asked to give me a bid on another project never heard from him. I pd.$500.00 to Home Pro to have a small brick deck removed and all I asked was that they stack the bricks in my yard and to stay away from my garden. What did I get, bricks thrown in the yard and they crushed my garden, even though I told Dave twice about the garden etc,he just threw the bricks where ever. Fast forward it took 3 hours of my time ( I own a Clinic and work 70 hours per week) and 4 phone calls to Kelly R before it was cleaned up.I got the impression she was hoping I would just accept the mess ! The only bright spot in this nightmare were the 2 young men they sent out to built the deck. They both were very polite, the stairs are a little off and the step down from the door is a little problematic..

[Member Name Removed] I am sorry to hear that you feel you have had a poor customer service experience with us. At Home Pro America we take great pride not only in our finished product, but our policies and procedures from initial meeting to project completion; 100% customer satisfaction is always our goal. It is never our intention to have our customers feel like our in-home representatives are not giving due attention to their project due to family matters, we apologize for the disconnect between your in-home representatives and yourselves and have taken time to address the concerns mentioned. I reviewed the photos of the original state of the brick pile and agree that they were not placed with care. I made sure to follow up with your project manager and reviewed completion photos of the brick pile and see that they are now stacked in a neat, uniform pile. I have since made changes in our staff, to ensure that these issues do not take place again. I took time to go over project photos of the deck, and couldn’t agree more, it looks very nice! I hope that you are both able to enjoy your beautiful new deck for years to come. I have checked to ensure that all issues mentioned above have been resolved and hope to move forward. I appreciate your comments and the time you took to leave them.

Hello [Member Name Removed], thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We understand that when things don’t go as planned it can be disappointing, and at times difficult to see that we were doing our very best to be mindful of your best interests, and do right by you, our customer. That's why I personally took the time to review this project. It appears that your project was initially bid with the understanding that there was one small area of the garage that had a leak. When our team arrived to a**** the project, we discovered that there were several areas in the garage that were leaking causing the ceiling of the garage to sag substantially. Since the deck is on top of the garage, we needed to insure that the leak was remedied and had not caused any damage to the integrity of the structure. The project timeline was extended since there was much more work that needed to be done to ensure a safe and trouble-free finished product. At Home Pro America we are dedicated to providing quality installations without cutting corners. We hope you can see where our team chose the route of taking longer over rushing through your project. We hope that you can consider the entirety of the situation and understand that our team chose to operate in a manner that may have made for a lengthy timeline, but the end results would be a product that lasts.

I happily accepted their flyer and scheduled a phone call with their rep as we were looking at putting in new gutters and a brand new deck on our home. My husband works rotating shift work with odd hours and I handle all our finances, so when it comes to major projects we usually just have contractors meet with me as my schedule is much easier to coordinate with. On the phone with the rep I tried to explain this, but he absolutely refused to do business with me (a woman) without my husband present. I've worked with plenty of other contractors in Minnesota who don't have this kind of antiquated and discriminatory attitude, and I think anyone who is thinking of working with HomePro should be aware. I made it plain to the rep that I was uncomfortable with how I was being treated and his response was that I "probably was a good fit as a client anyway" and he hung up. I'll be lodging a complaint with the BBB after this as well and leaving reviews on Yelp. I suppose they're welcome to discriminate against wives as business owners and heads of households, but I'm definitely going to make sure people know about it before they hire them.

Hi [Member Name Removed], thank you so much for letting us know about your concern. As a woman myself and owner of Home Pro America I wanted to take time to personally review the call. After listening to the call, upon our representative trying to figure out and negotiate your scheduling situation, it appears they were unable to find a time that worked well for you and your spouse. Our representative shared with you our company policy of having both home owners present and the benefit it provides in the process of providing an accurate, clear, and detailed estimate. We adhere to this policy when scheduling with a woman or man, and have it in place as it benefits the overall process greatly. After review of the call there was no malicious intent or discriminatory behavior observed. Our representative did their very best to educate you on why we have this policy in place and worked diligently to find a time that would work well for both you and your spouse. Once you had made it clear that you did not desire to schedule with both parties present, our representative followed company policy, apologized for any miscommunication, and extended the ability to schedule if you would like to reconsider meeting with both you and your spouse. Home Pro America is an equal opportunity provider and employer, and will not discriminate against any employee or prospect because of race, color, religion, national origin, s**, physical or mental disability, or age. I am sorry that you feel as though you were discriminated against, it is never our goal to make anyone feel uncomfortable or less than. I will continue to educate my staff on the importance of topics, such as these, and thank you for bringing a topic as important as discrimination to our focus; it has served as a great platform for education.

Looking at all the reviews here, makes me wonder if all the raving reviews here are scripted ones or I'm the one unlucky one. Contrary to everybody's experience here, mine has been a horrible one. The 1 star rating I would give here is probably for the good experience we had with their Sales guy Peter. After we signed the contract, everything turned upside down. 2-4 week estimate to start the work prior to signing the contract became 6-8 weeks after contract citing delay in getting the railing from the vendor. When the work was indeed supposed about to start, it is one disaster after another. They drop off Diamond Piers when we have very clearly said Poured concrete. That caused further delay to start because they had to get different permit. Based on our design discussions, the no. of footings and size of joists were pre-determined. but, found out they started using the standard 2x10 joists, when it was supposed to be 2x12s. The crew had 1 plan for footings, the city inspector has another when he showed up for inspection. Spent close to 2 hours to figure out a plan that would work for us and would still meet city code, Thanks to the City inspector who was very nice to work with. The crew was very inexperienced and very unprofessional. No attention to details, lousy workmanship, lot of re-work, literally their approach was cut and drill holes first then figure out the measurement, instead of measure twice cut once approach. The trash and materials never cleaned up at the end of the workday, the amount of scratches and scuff marks on the deck boards, making the deck look like it has been already used for 2years.. I can keep going on and on... and have pictures of some of the master class work done by these guys!! I have been almost doing the foreman job, overseeing the project by checking on what the crew is planning to work for that day (the days they show up to work that is) and ensuring they are not doing something again that was not on the plan, coming back in the evening checking the work and calling out all the mistakes. Here, we are after almost 12 weeks for a deck that was supposed to take 2 weeks, I still don't have the deck handed over to me. And to top it all of, These guys still think they deserve to get paid the whole balance remaining, with no regard to the agony they have caused me and the amount of time I have personally put into this project. NEVER would hire or recommend these guys even to my worst enemy

I was told that a ridge vent I paid to have put in was basically useless unless I had some additional work done so that was a bummer. I learned that my insulation was sadly lacking and quoted a dollar amount to improve it. The quote was about $600 higher when I received it in writing the next day. It was educational enough but I had thought that the inspection would include actually going INTO the attic as opposed to just peaking up though the access point. I kind of felt that this was a service that most would provide gratis as part of the bid process - I guess could be wrong.
