Concrete slabs are the most economical choice for a solid ground patio floor, costing around $3 to $8 per square foot on average. Gravel is a little less, about $1 to $4 per square foot, but you’ll need to refill it from time to time, which can add up over time.

No, high labor costs and the project's complexity make concrete stairs more expensive than steel or wood stairs. Wood steps cost between $100 and $200 per step, including labor and materials, while concrete steps are about triple, at between $200 and $600 per step. Building codes may also have stricter requirements for concrete steps, as they’re considered permanent, so you might also pay more for permits.

Gravel is the least expensive driveway type, costing between $1 and $3 per square foot. That said, you’ll likely need to add new gravel filling once or twice a year which can add up in additional costs over time. In addition, be prepared to regularly rake the gravel into place to keep your gravel driveway looking its best.

If you're only working with a gravel pad, and there is no concrete foundation, you might be able to upgrade to a concrete slab, but you’d have to speak with a professional concrete expert to confirm and get pricing. If you have a concrete foundation or cement block walls around the area where you want to build flooring, you might be able to pour a new concrete floor over the existing one to forgo repairs. Again, speak with a concrete expert or foundation company to see if this is an option.
