"Troy and his team at LT Drywall were a pleasure to work with and the quality of their work was excellent. They were both professional and very friendly. Troy did an excellent job of communicating when and how the work would be done and he and his employees were fast and courteous. I can't possibly imagine a better experience with a contractor. I truly feel that choosing another company would have been a mistake. Not to mention that out of 4 bids, LT drywall was by far the best value. I have recommended this company to many friends for future projects. You can't go wrong with them; I continue to be impressed with their performance."

"Justin and his crew were fantastic. No issues at all. We ended up changing the tile, nearly mid-job because Justin wanted us to, "love it." He gave his professional opinion and he was right on with shape, color and style of backsplash. We should've started with his thoughts and saved us all time and hassle. He too facilitated returning special order tile we bought outside of his recommendations. We had delays due to COVID19 and tile orders, but he still checked in and got the job done as expected. The workmanship was perfect. We too like supporting our military veterans. After asking him about some of his experiences, he's one of many vets we'll happily support!.Highly recommended."

"Very well. Their service saved us money and the work was top tier. TJ was very smart and knew exactly what the issue was and removed the mold and helped us come up with a plan of action to prevent it from coming back.

"The company was referred to my daughter by one of her coworker. Initially my daughter's primary interest was to have her popcorn ceiling scraped and replaced with knock down ceiling. She also wanted painting done in her lower level. After visiting with owners she learned that they had Handyman experience and had very good ideas. she ask if the could remodel her bathroom. They removed the old tile floor in the bathroom, replaced with new tile, removed the old vanity and plumbing and replaced with new. They were very friendly and easy to communicate with. They didn't talk over her head and were very creative with ideas and solutions. May daughter has already agreed to hire them for other "Handyman" projects in her home as will I in my home."

"This is the 2nd time I hired GCM for a home project. They were great. Any part of the project done by a GCM employee was done well and my home was respected (they left the space cleaner than they found it). Zach was the PM and he was very helpful and communicated with me often. Lissa ordered all of the supplies I selected and quickly answered any questions I had.

As with many home projects, the scope of the project changed after demo had occurred. In this case, the change was due to plumbing code changes and lack of understanding of the existing code, which in my opinion should have been noted at the time of the quote/contact signing (which was done after the code changes were implemented). Since that wasn't the case, the project was delayed and major decisions had to be made during the project, initial fixture purchases I had made had to be returned, and smaller (hard to find) fixtures had to be purchased instead. (If you need to find a 16" sink, let me know! That is the widest I could have due to plumbing code and the size of the room.)

This project included replacing all of the bathroom plumbing (including the most of the main stack), installing waterproof window trim (the window is in the tub/shower), installing a new tile tub/shower surround, new drywall, new door trim, new baseboards, new laminate flooring, painting, and fixture installs (tub, sink/vanity, toilet, cabinets, and accessories).

I highly recommend GCM; however, if your project includes any plumbing work, find out if they plan to use Sufka Plumbing & Water Conditioning Company as their subcontractor. Sufka was the plumbing subcontractor on this project and in addition to not fully understanding the plumbing code noted above, they left a mess every time they were in my home - inside and outside of the house. They were always "sorry" when I complained (which was after every time they were at my house), yet the behavior never changed. Zach from GCM was very responsive and cleaned up after them as best he could. GCM using Sufka as their subcontractor is why this project gets a "B" for the overall rating. All of the other ratings were giving strictly on the work GCM did.

Drywall questions, answered by experts

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.

Cracks, holes, water damage, and dents from heavy equipment often require repair.

There are several things you should not do when installing drywall. Common mistakes include: adding too many screws, over-sanding, not adding backing support, and installing drywall unevenly. You also should avoid screwing into the same place twice, installing Sheetrock with tapered edges on the outside, and making too many joints.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

You should leave a gap between drywall sheets because they naturally expand and contract along with the building framing as temperature and humidity change. Most pro drywall installers leave a gap of about ⅛ inch between drywall sheets, allowing the sheets to expand, contract, and shift without cracking or becoming damaged. If you don’t leave enough gaps between slabs, the edges will press against each other when they expand, and the pressure can cause visible cracks.
