"You are considered prey to this locksmith business. I called the locksmith for a qoute, and the prices were higher than the dealerships; I complained. I did not agree the charges and decided I did not want the service. The locksmith called me back and stated "please allow me to speak with my boss," a routine it seems. He places me on hold for a few minutes and of course, returns back stating his "boss agreed with the dealership price of $125.00." A big different from the quote earlier of over two hundred dollars for making a car key. We agreed on the price. After the job was completed and I quote " I am the boss call me anytime." It appears honestly is the policy for this businessman. I conduct my business afairs straight on, and i like honest businessmen and Companies. I thought of seniors calling this business and becoming victims, and over charged. No thank you! My total list of complaints: Professional: Two men arrived unprofessially dress is concerning. Arrival time: Over 30mins late"

"Anthony, the owner of GANI Lock â â nâ Key, came to my house to do the job. I had lost-my last Keyless entry fob for my car. There was a mixup over the phone about what I needed for my car doors.. The price was more than quoted. Because Anthony did the job for a little more than was quoted and because Iâ m on . He is very professional and personable, as well as honest. I would recommend him to anyone that needed his service. Thank you Anthony, thank you for your generosity.!!"

"Choice responded quickly but the insurance plan does not pay for all doors to be re-keyed unless you have very few locks. The number of locks covered by the insurance is determined by keyholes, not doors! (Read your policy!) You will likely have to shell out some money to have this essential new-home service if you have more than four keyholes. The locksmith they called was EXCELLENT and made all our locks completely functional. We will happily hire the locksmith again (R.L Locksmith LLC). We paid $201.81 (plus another $50 for some door re-alignment not included in the re-keying benefit) and Choice paid $100 for the job."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Security systems are one of the measures that deter burglars the most. Research suggests most burglars look for signs of a security system before going in, although the presence of a security system doesn’t automatically mean they won’t enter the home. However, a security system with cameras can decrease the chance of a burglary overall.

As with any computer, smart locks can be hacked by someone with the technical skills to do so, but most people do not have that ability, making smart locks relatively safe. If you have any concerns about a compromised smart lock, opt for an encrypted smart lock, change your Wi-Fi password, and make sure that you only give out your password to trusted family and friends.

Smart deadbolts are a worthwhile investment for homeowners seeking more convenience, flexibility, and advanced features than a traditional deadbolt can provide. While a strong conventional deadbolt offers sufficient security for most, smart deadbolts provide significant upgrades.

Key benefits include keyless entry via smartphone, keypads, or biometric sensors, and the ability to lock or unlock your door remotely. You can also manage access for guests by creating temporary codes, eliminating the need for physical keys and the risk of them being lost or duplicated. Many models integrate with smart home systems and offer features like automatic locking, entry-exit monitoring, and tamper alerts with encryption for enhanced security.

However, there are downsides to consider. Smart deadbolts are more expensive than their traditional counterparts and rely on batteries and wireless networks to function. This dependency introduces potential vulnerabilities, such as hacking by skilled intruders and privacy concerns. Installation can also be more complex. Despite these drawbacks, the added layer of convenience and protection makes them a compelling option for many.

Rekeying door locks yourself costs a fraction of what you would expect to pay a locksmith. On average, it costs between $50 to $100 to hire a local locksmith to rekey your house, though labor costs may vary based on where you live. For a DIY solution, you can expect to spend $11 to $25 on a rekeying kit.

Begin by checking the power source, typically a battery or wired connection. Ensure the battery is installed correctly, has sufficient charge, and isn't corroded. If it's a wired lock, examine the electrical connections to confirm they are secure and free from damage. Additionally, inspect the lock's programming or settings. Confirm that user codes or access credentials are programmed correctly and that any remote control devices are paired and functional.
