Licenced and insured electrical contractor. 15 years experience

"Kyle did some electrical work for our kitchen remodel as part of a larger kitchen upgrade. Kyle seems like a nice guy but he made so many mistakes it really held up the kitchen remodel and it ended up taking weeks longer. Outlets were put in the wrong place. The wrong switch plates were installed. The biggest problem is that Kyle was so busy we could not get him back to finish/correct the work for days and weeks on end. In the end we had a non-functioning kitchen for 3 months. I think Kyle is a decent electrician but doesn't take the time to do the job right. Always in a rush. In the end it all got done but it was like pulling teeth."

Thee Electric Co. is committed to providing the latest technology with quality products at competitive prices for our customers. "From the person with no license listed in Michigan LARA (discovered at a much later date) working alone to complete the work and not reporting that he drill a hole through our chest freezer, to not passing the inspection for multiple basic things it was a nightmare. I was asked by the owner to sign a letter saying I was "ok" with the violative conditions, when I refused, I was sent a quote for additional charges to correct the code violations. After threats to report them they got it to pass an inspection nearly three months after the original work was done. Horrible, shoddy work done just well enough to pass the inspection, thanks to my friend supervising their work and demanding things as they went along, and no scruples! Avoid them, it was even worse than this evaluation states."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

It’s possible to install your own ceiling fans if you’re replacing an existing one. This work doesn’t require a permit and technically doesn’t necessitate a certified electrician, but it’s still a good idea to hire one. There’s always a safety risk when working with electrical components, even if you shut the power off at the breaker. If you’re installing a new ceiling fan where there currently isn’t a fixture, you will need a licensed electrician to run the new wiring and pull permits for the work.

Yes, ceiling fans come with a few other features that help with function, style, and convenience. Multi-speed fans can give you specialized control over the airflow. Consider getting one with an integrated light to save ceiling space. Some ceiling fans come with a remote control that enables you to change direction without climbing a ladder. Of course, you can also consider installing a wall switch to enjoy that convenience.

The basic cost to install a ceiling fan ranges from $145 to $355 and averages $250. If the installation has higher demands, such as new or complex wiring, your bill will likely be on the higher end. Other factors, such as an included light kit, installing switches, and ease of access can also affect the final cost.

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.

Ceiling fans can be a great way to cool your home without the expensive utility bill of running an air conditioner. Plus, ceiling fans can sometimes run in both directions, pushing hot air down in winter and pulling cold air up in summer. With that said, air conditioning might be the only thing that helps if you live in a very warm climate.
