You should contact your driveway installer before winterizing a newly installed driveway. Winterizing it before the asphalt or concrete has fully cured can damage the driveway. But in many cases, you don't need to winterize a newly installed driveway anyway since it's likely freshly sealed and won't have much damage yet. 

Regular maintenance will help you avoid costly repairs and early replacement. Clean the driveway surface with a stiff brush and water at least twice yearly, and remove any weeds that try to take root. Additionally, every two to five years, apply a sealcoat—this protects the driveway against damaging UV rays and keeps it looking like new.

Sealcoating asphalt costs $0.14 to $0.25 per square foot. Doing so prevents erosion in harsh weather and keeps your asphalt from cracking or getting potholes. It’s a good idea to hire a professional sealcoating company with positive reviews to do this work rather than do it yourself.

Whether you should resurface or replace your asphalt driveway heavily depends on its condition. If the foundation is solid and the damage is minor, resurfacing is your best bet because it’s more affordable and faster than replacing the driveway. But if your driveway has foundational problems and/or severe damage, like large, deep cracks and potholes, then it makes more sense to replace it. 

We don’t recommend sealing brand-new asphalt; instead, wait for at least three months so that the asphalt has some time to cure.
