"very good. They took the time to determine how to go about with the service, then quoted me. Since the weather was iffy, I took photos and sent them to them and they stopped by and gave me a quote. It was raining, and he could see from the photos that more thought would be needed to address the driveway."

"They found the foundation to be sound with no repairs needed. Foundation Specialists were in a position to take advantage of our lack of knowledge but had the integrity not to. I would definitely hire them again."

"Small company that bid the lowest price but delivered the best work. Showed up on time, explained the process and used quality caulk and paint. Cleaned up the area every night and even painted the sidewalk which was not in his bid."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.

Pavers will crack in a fire pit if they are made of the wrong materials. Be sure to use kiln-fired brick paver stones when building your backyard fire pit. You can also purchase a fire pit project kit, which will sometimes come with fire-safe pavers, to help you avoid the guessing game of buying pavers separately.

Costs range from $3 to $7 per square foot, depending on the area size and project scope.

Paver driveways are durable and aesthetically pleasing, but they do have a few cons. For instance, paver driveways are often more expensive than asphalt and concrete driveways. They also make it easier for weeds to grow where the separate pavers meet up. They may also be more likely to settle over time.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.
