"Not doing very well on the hardwood floors. They have streaks all over them when they dry. I told the cleaners about it but they acted like they weren't concerned. They also don't clean behind and under the furniture. I plan on calling their supervisor before they come again. They come every 4 weeks to clean."

"I needed expert advice when a painter scratched and gouged our wood floor by moving a piano. Turning to Angie’s list I found McDowell’s Hardwood Floors. Steve McDowell promptly answered my call and made a visit to our home the following day. After assessing our floors and the damaged area we decided the best course of action for us to screen and re-coat in low gloss finish. Due to the nature of our project and Steve’s timing he was able to the job in the same week - which made us very happy. When doing the second coat, the finish was plagued with debris and required a third and fourth coat to get the floors near perfect. Steve was diligent in working through our issue and the end product is better than we expected."

Floor Polishers questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can mop hardwood floors with a damp flat or string mop as long as it is not soaking wet. Always avoid leaving standing water or fully soaking your hardwood floors, even if they are properly finished. A slightly wet mop, with or without cleaning solutions, will not damage the wood.

Clean your vinyl plank floors at least one to two times per week with a broom, vacuum, or microfiber mop. You can save the mopping and disinfecting for your deeper cleans about two to three times a month. Keep in mind that if you find sticky spots, spills, or stains, it's best to take care of them ASAP.

Like any other type of flooring, you will need to keep up with regular maintenance on your epoxy floors to keep them in the best shape possible; however, it is not like hardwood floors inside a house, which require special care and more consistent maintenance.

Just make sure you use the right cleaning tools and solutions. Avoid using harsh tools like scrub brushes or hard-bristled brooms. You should also skip cleaners that are highly acidic, including white vinegar.

The cost for professional floor cleaning is $250 on average. This cost can range from $100 to $1,500, depending on the type of flooring and its square footage.

For example, natural stone flooring requires specialized techniques and care, so you'll spend closer to the higher end of the cost range. The cost of cleaning tile and grout is more cost-effective, where you'll pay an average of $0.50 to $3.50 per square foot.

Most DIY floor cleaners don’t require rinsing, but you’ll want to make sure you don’t add too much dish soap or oil to the cleaner to avoid having to rinse it after cleaning. For non-wood floors, mix 8 parts warm water, 1 part vinegar, and 1 part baking soda with a few drops of dish soap. For wood floors, use olive oil in that same mixture instead of the vinegar. You can let these solutions air-dry after cleaning your floors with them, although you should manually dry your floors if they aren’t waterproof.
