"No other contractors I called were willing to take on the job, we needed a new roof and news ceilings throughout our home due to water damage. Roland of Redneck's Kustom Remodeling answered all of my calls and worked with us throughout the process to keep the cost low but results great. The house looks so nice now and feels way more structurally sound!"

"These guys were great!! We had a delivery of a massive new front, all in one piece, very heavy. They handled it of total care and stored it in our garage with all the very long trim pieces for installation next day. Kind of an unusual item to deliver so was concerned about the glass, scratching, damage. Again, 5-star handling and very pleased!!"

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

The local climate heavily impacts pole barn building due to intense freeze-thaw cycles and significant snow accumulation. You must design roofs to handle up to 80 inches of annual snowfall and prevent ice damming. High humidity and wet soils accelerate wood degradation at ground level. Schedule your project between May and October, as freezing temperatures restrict concrete pouring and saturated spring soils delay construction across MI.

Helpful?

A properly executed project will have a documented permit history and inspection sign-offs. Quality pole barn building requires poles set at or below the 42-inch local frost depth with proper concrete collars. The roof pitch must comfortably support heavy snow loads. You will also see pressure-treated lumber at all ground contact points and proper grading that directs water away from the structure to prevent frost heave in Harrison.

Helpful?

Your property is a strong candidate for pole barn building if it features sufficient acreage to meet specific setback requirements. Ensure your site offers good natural drainage and solid driveway access to support heavy construction equipment. Properties within 500 feet of a lake, stream, or wetland require additional state permits. Verify your zoning designation and check for deed restrictions or utility easements before starting your Harrison project.

Helpful?

Homeowners often underestimate local permit requirements and skip verifying setbacks from property lines or wetlands in Harrison. Another major error during pole barn building involves setting poles above the 42-inch frost depth, leading to structural instability. You must also account for heavy ground snow loads and properly grade the site. Failing to plan drainage around clay-heavy soils accelerates decay at the base of your posts.

Helpful?

During the first few winters, improper pole barn building reveals itself through minor door and window alignment issues. As your structure ages in MI, humidity and soil moisture cause surface cracking and wood degradation at the pole bases. After a decade, metal roofing develops fastener issues and rust. Older agricultural structures require full structural reassessments or post sistering to address significant decay below the grade line.
