"Kollin is efficient and will get the job done—no matter what. He removed carpet adhesive from my new house to restore the original hardwood floors, and it looks like it’s brand new."

"Preston was prompt with his service and delivered a trailer right to my home, which was very convenient for me load the items I needed to remove. Plenty of room to load big items and when I was ready he came and picked up the trailer and made the process very easy. Thank you for the great service!"

"Tim & Forest power washed the exterior of our home. They were on time & meticulous. In addition, they were courteous, took time to discuss the cleaning solution & carefully navigated flower beds along the house. We were impressed how clean the exterior & porch areas looked. In fact, the home looks as if it was repainted."

"Andrew McIntire was very professional. He called when he knew he would be late to keep me updated, he pointed out issues with my roof, and explained why parts of the roof would not look like it had been cleaned (but was). He worked very hard at removing all of the algae. His pricing was excellent. I would recommend him as a roof cleaner. I'll probably ask him back to do some handyman work."

Garbage Removal questions, answered by experts

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

Never put glass in the garbage disposal. It can damage your disposal or eject shards of glass out of the disposal and cause injury. If you get broken glass in your garbage disposal, turn it off and cut the power from the breaker, use a tool like pliers or tongs to remove the glass, and use a wet-dry vacuum to remove the remaining glass pieces. If you can’t access the disposal safely, call a garbage disposal repair pro.

Garbage disposals are durable appliances that usually last at least eight years as long as you clean and maintain them. It’s relatively rare for a garbage disposal to break on its own, as most malfunctions happen due to user errors, like overstuffing the grinding compartment or damaging the blades by trying to dispose of metal or bone. Eventually, cracks or leaks could develop in the unit, which requires a full replacement.

Your garbage disposal will only affect the health of your septic tank if you’re using it too frequently, or filling it with organic waste that doesn’t fully break down. If the tank fills up with too many solids, the bacteria won’t have enough time to consume it before more is added, which can lead to an overflow in the drain field. Your tank will need to be pumped more frequently with excessive or improper garbage disposal use.

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.
