"They did a thorough job of removing 60+ years of accumulated stuff on my dad's rural property, plus replacing an old culvert over a stream. We had a few unanticipated extras for them to do, but the final bill came in exactly as quoted. Robert is very detail oriented, polite, and responsible. I highly recommend West Branch Dirt Works."

"Amazing service and speed!! Micheal came out to survey the job and would give us a quote on Monday. They knew we were battling water in our parking lot and surrounding areas. He brought us a quote that day and the job was done in two days!! They excavated the area brought sand and gravel. After they were done they even came out to check on us after a terrible rain!! What a very professional company (Reilly Contracting) and would highly recommend."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The rules and regulations regarding groundwater use vary between states. To find out if you can dig a well on your property, you’ll have to consult these regulations, address any compliance requirements, and get the appropriate permits. It’s also important to check that your intended location has the right geology and water table to support a well.

Trenching is a specific kind of digging. Trenching means digging a depression in the earth that’s deeper than it is wide, often with heavy machinery. Digging refers to any kind of removal of earth in order to create a human-made depression, hole, or cut in the earth’s surface. You can dig with big tools or even with just a hand shovel.

Completion time ranges from days to weeks, contingent on project size, environmental conditions, and regulatory approvals.

Sewer lines can be buried anywhere from 18 inches to 8 feet deep, with a common average depth between 18 and 30 inches. The exact depth depends on local factors like climate and soil type. In colder regions, pipes must be buried deeper (below the frost line) to prevent freezing, sometimes as deep as 8 feet. The digging depth can also impact the cost of sewer line replacement. To find the specific depth for your property, you can check the building plans for your system, which should be on file with your city or local sanitation department since permits are required for installation.

Consultation with the local government helps identify necessary permits, avoid project delays or legal issues, and protect project integrity.
