"I had got a estimate from a local hvac business cause they were in the area and I didn't know that fixed furnaces or center air . The first company came out and tried to sell me everything and anything and had financing .. I almost did it but the 12 thousand plus price tag scared me .I'm glad I didn't cause a guy at work gave me the number to MIKE at MCHVAC and I'm glad I called .Mike came out and gave me a honest professional option of what shape my system was in and option of what I could do . He replaced the central air system with even having to replace the furnace that was only 5 years old I might add .the first guy told me I pretty much had to buy all new cause it would work just replacing the central air .. Thank you Mike and MCHVAC for being honest and doing a awesome job. . MCHVAC SAVED ME OVER $7000 that I didn't need to spend . I give recommend Mike to all my family and friends ."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The outdoor portions of air conditioners are designed to weather the rain, so you don’t need to worry about it. An awning or roof will help protect them from snow or falling debris, which can do more damage. This is true of both window AC and outdoor units for larger systems.

The cost of R32 refrigerant is about the same as the cost of R410A refrigerant, the most widely available type of refrigerant today. However, R32 systems use about 20% less refrigerant than R410A systems, making the refrigerant less expensive overall.

Not if you have a standard unit. Because portable AC units actually work to dehumidify the room, you’ll likely need to drain the unit from time to time—but you won’t have to put water into it. There is, however, another type of air conditioner called a swamp cooler that requires water to operate. If you have a swamp cooler, you may need to fill a reservoir with water and potentially ice. But a swamp cooler is different from a standard portable AC unit.

Unfortunately, a freon leak will persist even when your AC unit is off. The freon in the AC unit is under pressure no matter the status of the system, so it will continue to drip through the leak even when you shut off the entire unit. It will continue to leak freon until it’s completely empty.

An AC inspection costs anywhere from $75 to $200, while a full HVAC system inspection that includes your furnace ranges from $200 to $450. While there's a cost to a home AC inspection, it can save you hundreds or thousands in the long run by catching problems, avoiding breaks, and saving you money on your utility bills.
