"Contacted contractor found on Angi's list end of april. Decided to move forward. On Monday April 28th received a text to sign the invoice. an invoice to sign and pay for half the contracted work to have my exterior home painted, gutters powerwashed and painted, fron door and garage painted. He asked if I was in a rush (like next few weeks) when he came out to give me quote - I advised I was not. After signing and paying he replied via text that he will get me in first thing in the morning. Monday May 5th sent a text (as phone goes right to voicemail this whole experience) checking in asking if a date has been set? NO response. Sent a text that Friday May 9th checking in, provided my info etc. Replied he will find out today and touch base with me later. Tues May 27th - sent another text. Replied Wed May 28th that due to bad weather he was backed up but looks like this coming week opens up and I'm 3rd in line. So 2-3 weeks away. Monday June 30th sent follow up text. No reply. Thursday July 3rd sent a text. Replied due to weather backed up and because I wasn't in a rush and smaller job he was putting it off for some bigger jobs. Friday Aug 8th. Sent a text for Status NO reply. Tues Aug 12th. Sent a text for status. No reply. Mon Aug 18th. Sent a text for status. Replied he's in Kansas on a job and will get back to me in a few days to set a date set. Wed Sept 3rd Sent text NO Reply Fri Sept 5th Sent text NO Reply Tues Sept 9th Sent text. Replied offering the 26th or 29th for service. Accepted the 29th. Heard nothing, now Sept 26th sent a text to confirm as he wanted to drop supplies off prior to Monday the 29th. NO reply. Monday Sept 29th replied due to weather lost some time and earliest he could do was this Friday and be done Sunday. Replied Okay. Friday Oct 3rd sent text for status. No Reply. Sat Oct 4th replied: The guys won't listen to work this weekend from weekend events & he's still in Kansas. If he can't make it happen he'll refund my money. I replied advising to do so. He repled no problem and he'll drop off that first thing when back. It'll be sometime beginning of the week. Monday 13th sent a text for update on refunding my deposit. No response. Tues 14th sent another text - no response. 6th months since I gave my deposit and never did the work or refunded my money. I only used him because he was on Angi's list. Now it's to late in the year to get it done and I'm owed 1250.00. Remove this contractor from your list - this is the worst experience with a contractor and my first time using Angi."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

It depends on the size of the surface. If you’re covering a large area, a paint roller will allow you to stain the entire surface in much less time. Paint rollers also offer the advantage of creating a smoother, more even coat. However, they’re not as practical for smaller surfaces such as banisters, spindles, and crevices—for these, opt for a paintbrush, paint mitt, or lint-free rag instead.

Beyond liquid rubber, homeowners can use sealants, stains, membranes, or tapes as waterproofing options. Oil-based or water-based sealants soak into the wood, creating a moisture-resistant barrier. Waterproofing stains—available in transparent, semi-transparent, and solid colors—add both protection and style to your deck. For heavy-duty waterproofing, deck membranes and waterproof tapes can be applied under the deck boards to direct water away from the structure below. Whatever method you choose, clean and prep the deck first to ensure the best, longest-lasting results.

Exterior paints contain more volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, making them dangerous when used indoors. Without the free ventilation of the great outdoors, it can take longer for the fumes to dissipate than interior paint. While you may notice the smell lessening more quickly, you should be wary of paint fumes inside for 48 to 72 hours after it dries.

You should wait three to six months after you buy it to paint pressure-treated wood. It needs time to dry from the chemicals applied to it. The paint will not adhere to the treated wood as well if it’s still wet from chemicals. To test the wooden boards, drip water onto them. If the wood absorbs the water, it’s ready for painting. If the water beads up, it’s not dry enough to paint yet. You can build your deck or fence while the treated wood is still wet, but you’ll need to paint it later.

Staining pressure-treated wood is a recommended practice. While inherently resilient, it's not impervious to moisture and UV exposure. Staining treated wood is feasible and recommended for enhanced protection and longevity. Applying stain and sealant safeguards against degradation, prolonging its life span. These measures shield the wood from environmental threats while augmenting its aesthetic appeal, ensuring your investment endures the test of time.
