"Triad was highly recommended by our interior decorator and other clients they had done work for along the coastline (west Michigan). Triad installed a full landscape for us in early spring 2016 (Sod, New Irrigation System, Pennsylvania Blue Flagstone Patio, Gas Fire Feature, Entry Berms, Canadian Hemlocks and foundation plantings). We worked with Steve and Jeff from the design team and Tim Burks was our assigned project manager. Triad has done a stellar job of helping my partner and I understand the construction process, warranty coverages and work scopes thru comprehensive documentation and amazing design work. Tim (our assigned project manger) was polite, professional and approachable. Tim definitely went out of his way to keep us informed / never made us feel inferior despite the never ending questions (thanks again Tim!). Jeffery used the term interactive when he described triads approach to landscape design / construction (proactive would be a great definition as well Jeff!) When we met with the designer (Sean) at finalization he asked that we write a review upon completion, so here you go! -professionalism 5 stars -design and work scope quality 5 stars -quality of construction 5 stars -price: they definitely were not inexpensive (higher side of the spectrum) but we wanted the very best for our lake home and we couldn't be happier 4.99 stars Thank you again triad!"

Fountains questions, answered by experts

While they’re popular and have a lot of pros, the cons of river rocks include the following:

  • River rocks don’t break down or provide nutrients to plants.

  • These stones can get hot and scorch nearby plants.

  • River stones may heat the surrounding soil to inhospitable temperatures.

  • Rocks can block rainwater from seeping into the ground if installations are too thick or tightly packed.

Most downsides occur when using river rock as mulch in gardens and flower beds. However, you can still incorporate river rocks into your landscape as long as you use them in the correct ways.

Placing your water feature in direct sun can speed up evaporation, leading to pump damage and algae growth. Shade or partial shade serves as the ideal location for most water features—just watch out for tree and plant debris that may fall in and clog the pump.

Even if you empty your pond before the winter, there’s a good chance it will refill naturally. It’s ideal in most cases, then, to leave water in your pond and winterize it instead. This method will prevent ice damage and protect wildlife. Plus, it’ll lessen the steps required to reopen your pond in the spring.

Backyard water features can add serenity to your property, drown out neighborhood noise, and serve as a focal point to a stunning landscape design. In some cases, a properly installed and maintained water feature can add to your home’s value. Just be sure to check with your insurance company before installation since some features may affect your premiums.

When deep cleaning your koi pond, transfer fish to a clean, uncontaminated container at least one foot deep, like a large bucket, tub, or kiddie pond. Fill the container with their existing pond water to avoid shocking them, and place the container in full or partial shade. When it’s time to reintroduce them into the pond, slowly add the new water to the container before adding the fish and container water back into the pond.
