"Rob is a professional -- personable, knowledgeable, experienced, and perhaps best of all, smart and innovative and able to create good solutions for difficult challenges, for both indoor and outside plumbing. As an example, we had a very complex main sewer leak in an old house with many drains feeding in, and Rob developed the most efficient solution that was superior to the existing main set-up, and it will last for decades. He also thought creatively in putting in an instant-on water heater where there was limited space in the house and created an excellent system there as well. He's also thought of commonsense ways for us to better winterize our plumbing, and more. Simply said, although I don't want to share Rob ..., for the greater good, I have to. He's excellent at what he does and will be our plumber moving forward."

Gas Leak Repair questions, answered by experts

If you sense a gas leak or are upgrading your appliances, it’s best to hire a gas engineer to disconnect the gas stove for you and conduct any other necessary inspections and repairs. While it is easy to disconnect the gas stove yourself, you may not be qualified to complete what needs to be done next. Gas is also harmful to the human body. Therefore, a trained professional is more suitable to handle any gas-related problems.

Common signs of gas line leaks include a rotten egg smell, hissing sounds, dead plants around the area of the leak, and unexplained physical symptoms like dizziness and nausea. If you notice any of these signs, act immediately. Shut off the gas supply to your home and call a pro to assess the situation.

You’ll need to increase your budget. Since you will likely need a new outlet, factor in $120 to $200 for it. If your gas company needs to run a new gas line to your oven, expect a charge between $200 to $2,000.

This is a matter of personal preference, as each method has its own pros and cons. Oil furnaces are safer, but the smell can be off-putting to some consumers. Oil is also more expensive than gas. However, oil furnaces boast a higher BTU rate per hour, so a smaller amount of oil can heat a larger space when compared to a gas furnace.

While some building codes allow galvanized pipe for natural gas, it shouldn’t be used for propane. Propane can cause the pipe to wear down, leading to dangerous leaks. Instead of galvanized piping for propane, you should consider coated copper, black iron, or corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST). For underground propane line installation, you can use polyethylene (PE).
