"It took two weeks and many calls & emails for Mark to respond to the problem of a leak in the system which caused damage to the ceilings & floor. When he called back we were told that his company didn't have the time to come out. He referred us to another company that does work for him. Two weeks later, someone came to look at the system, said they think they found the problem and told us if it leaked again to call back because we might need a new pump. Well, it leaked. We called. They didn't return the call. So, we called a local guy who was willing to come out that day. When my husband explained what we were told, he said there was no pump involved. And, he was right because with the information we got from the local guy, my husband was able to fix the problem in ten minutes. Very disappointed in the lack of and quality of service from New England Spray Foam."

Depending on the level of audit you choose, a home energy audit will at least include a walk-through of the home to determine visible inefficiencies, but may include testing and a highly detailed inspection and report laying out the home’s inefficiencies and providing recommendations to fix those issues. The audit may also include a review of utility bills and mechanical testing. Consult your home energy auditor about the types of services they provide before hiring.

R-value is a measurement that dictates how much resistance an insulation material has against heat flow—or how well it can stop heat from coming and going. A higher R-value, which is attributed to thicker and more dense materials, means the better the insulation performs. There is not one universal recommended value. It depends on climate zones. For example, Alaska, which has a naturally cold and arctic climate, has higher R-value recommendations than the hot and humid Hawaii.

Replacing a window frame will improve your home’s energy efficiency if the old frame is cracked or damaged in a way that allows unconditioned air from the outside into your living space or if you upgrade to a more energy-efficient window frame material.
