Zuhlke Tree Service offers professional and affordable tree service throughout the State of Maine. We specialize in technical removals of hazard trees, which often involves multiple rope systems and advanced rigging, to keep your property safe and minimize damage to the ground and surrounding trees. We can access places that bucket trucks can't, and other companies won't. There are few exceptions to what we can do, but if something is beyond our abilities (e.g. requires a crane or a piece of very specialized equipment that we don't have) we will refer you to another professional who can meet your needs.

"Zuhlke Tree Service did a great job clearing out some overgrowth next to our neighbors fence as well as take down a damaged spruce tree. They removed all the tree pieces and debris leaving our yard all picked up. The Zuhlke family is very friendly and reviews the work to be done with you before starting the job. They offer very reasonable rates. I highly recommend Zuhlke Tree Service if you need any tree/ shrub removal done on your property."

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

It typically takes three to five days to stain a fence, though most of that time is spent—literally—watching paint dry. The main issue is that you can’t stain a wet fence because the stain won’t sink into the porous grain of the wood. That means you’ll need to wait 24 hours to stain your fence after you wash it and 12 to 24 hours between each coat. Most people spend about an hour staining per 10 to 20 linear feet. 

On most untreated wood fences, there is no need to sand before treating. You typically only need to sand if there’s an old coat of paint or stain on your fence. If you do need to sand off a previous paint or protective coating (like an old stain or sealant), use medium-grit sandpaper.

We don’t recommend it. A wired brush or a brush with metal bristles damages concrete and asphalt during the stain removal process. For the best results, stick to nylon stiff enough to do the job but gentle enough to keep from scratching the driveway. For extra caution, skip the brush entirely and use towels.
