"I am so impressed and grateful that Casco Bay Electric sent a super nice electrician (Dave) to the house same day for a septic pump electric install. I was in a bind and they really came through! Highly recommend!!"

Small jobs welcome

"Roy, whom I believe is the company owner, contacted me almost immediately after I posted the request for services to Home Advisor. He was thorough in assessing our needs, offered a very reasonable quote, and was 100% willing to work with us to schedule a time/date convenient for our tenants. The electrician John, was very friendly, courteous to all tenants, efficient, and cleaned up all materials after the job was complete. I also had forgotten to mention an area of the house that needed addressed, this required someone to return to the job site. The work was completed within a few days of the notification and without any fuss whatsoever. RGS will be our go-to on all future electrical work!"

"I have hired Wes many times to perform electrical work on my building. He has installed lights, ceiling fans, switches, and receptacles. In every instance he has done an excellent job. He is very knowledgeable about the electrical code. When he has found deficiencies in the existing wiring, he has been able to patiently explain what the problem is and why it needs to be fixed. I highly recommend Wes."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.

Whether you need electrical upgrades depends on the electronics your game room includes. If your game room will have high-powered electronics, arcade machines, or a home theater, you may need to upgrade your electrical panel or add dedicated circuits. An electrician can assess your current system and provide an estimate for any necessary upgrades.

Amps describe the amount of energy that can flow through a circuit breaker. Every electrical device that’s attached to the breaker requires about 1.5 amps. While that equates to roughly 13 receptacles per 20 amps, using slightly fewer ensures that your circuit will always have enough energy for sudden power surges instead of tripping when one occurs. In general, 10 to 12 receptacles is recommended for a 20 amp circuit.

Single switch installs are quick DIY projects, but you should consider enlisting the help of a pro for more complicated replacements—like a smart switch or if you live in an older home with outdated wiring. Professional electricians are trained in the latest code regulations. They are also insured, licensed, and bonded.

Local electricians with experience in your area understand the local building codes, which is very important when doing new electrical work. They also have experience with the kind of electrical problems homes in your location may have, and even the components that were used in the original construction, which leads them to make faster and better decisions.
