"Horrible Job! This outfit changed their appointment times at least five times before actually starting the job. They blew cellulose insulation into our east bedroom attic, but had complete disregard for the mess they created. They ran the discharge hose up through an open ceiling hatch with no attempt at sealing the opening. As a result, cellulose debris & dust was EVERYWHERE! It took my wife and me several hours of vacuuming, washing items, shaking out blankets and rugs, and serious dusting to get the spaces back somewhat civilized."

Most homeowners installing blown-in insulation as a one-off DIY project should simply rent a blower. They tend to be very heavy, and contractor-grade machines can cost $13,000 to $16,000.

Homeowners insurance covers some damage caused by ice dams, but it depends on the type of damage. Poorly installed insulation may last only 30 years, so be sure to regularly inspect your home's insulation for water damage, settling, and pests to give your insulation the best chance of having a long lifespan.
