Yes, you can paint or finish LVL beams. Some people apply paint or coating to cover up the dull or patchy look left behind by the resins used when manufacturing LVL beams. It's essential to prepare the surface properly before painting. This includes cleaning the beams and ensuring they are free of dust, dirt, and any loose particles. You should also apply a primer before painting to get a smooth, even finish. 

You should always use a primer before painting over wallpaper to help the paint adhere correctly and get a good finish. Not all wallpaper can be painted over, so do a test patch in an inconspicuous area before painting an entire wall. If the primer and paint don’t adhere, you’ll need to remove the wallpaper, prime the wall, and then paint.

Unless you’re using a 2-in-1 formula or painting over an existing coat of paint, it pays to apply a coat of primer ahead of your new paint. Decks see a lot of footfall and exposure to extreme and sudden temperature changes and moisture levels. The primer promotes better paint adhesion, moisture repellency, and a smoother finish, which means you’ll often need fewer coats of paint.

Once it soaks through, you should be able to wipe away the residue with a towel.
