"Phil reconfigured wiring for our island, can lights, and installed new ceiling fans. Unlike our last electrician he left the job site very clean. Very happy with his work."

"We had never planned on having lightening rods installed in our home. We had gone out on an errand and when we came home, William and crew were installing rods on our neighbor's home across the street and William came over and talked to us about installing lightening rods. He didn't give a "sales pitch," just gave us the price including weathervane and we agreed. They were friendly, they were neat, efficient, thoughtful and conscientious. Because of our experience with this company, we would definitely recommend them."

"The generator was delivered when promised, and the installation went smoothly, even though there was a slight glitch in the fact a part sent with the generator was incorrect and the installers had to wait for the correct one. The price was exactly what I was quoted, and I would recommend Next Gen to anyone looking for a Generac. Looking forward to getting the installation completed by my propane company in the spring."

"Service sought was to troubleshot the installation of a stand-alone backup drive and getting the appropriate files backed up to the drive. Initial service was a tech coming to our home. That was not as productive as hoped for the issue we were trying to resolve. A rep from the company called to see how the visit went and after talking with her she recommended using their remote service. There was no additional charge. The person I worked with was great. Listened and asked questions appropriately. Helped me resolve the issue efficiently and taught me some things about some of the software I was not aware of. All in all I would recommend the remote service. We will use Computer Works, Inc. again."

Doorbell Installation questions, answered by experts

Natural fiber batts and spray foam insulation both work great for soundproofing. Newer materials, such as hemp batts, are more expensive but more effective for insulation and sound blocking. They are also more sustainable. There is also a professional system called Blow-In Blanket Insulation (BIBS) that is soundproof and moisture-resistant. However, BIBS must be installed professionally and can be a costly investment.

Structural insulated panels and rigid foam boards have the highest R-value of any insulation that contractors commonly use, with R-values reaching up to around 8.0. These types of insulation are best in extremely cold climates, but they’re generally preferred for new construction, as they can be challenging to retrofit. Blown-in and loose fill insulation provide the next best insulative value, provided the installation is done properly. It’s important to choose an insulation type that meets your needs based on climate, as maximizing R-value may not always be financially worthwhile if you live in a moderate climate.

Insulating an unheated garage can still be worth it. For instance, insulating an attached garage can help with heat loss from your house in general, and it can also make it easier to store electronics in your garage without worrying about them being exposed to extreme temperatures.

If you use your detached garage as a workspace, insulation can still make a difference. Plus, you can use space heaters and a window unit AC to help condition the space while you work without installing heating.

The life span of fiberglass insulation can be as long as 80 to 100 years, but because of changing building codes, it’s best to get your insulation checked every 10 to 15 years. Signs of degrading fiberglass insulation include bits of batts on the floor or batts detached from frames. Having optimal, healthy insulation in your home will improve its energy efficiency, lowering your monthly bills.

Insulating a detached garage won't reduce your home's heating or cooling bills—and insulating an attached garage will only have a small effect on your home's energy efficiency. However, insulating an attached garage can reduce the transfer of heating and cooling to and from the outdoors, which can reduce the amount of energy your home needs to stay comfortable. Also, having an insulated garage is just more pleasant. Balance the cost of insulating your garage with how you'll use the space to determine if the project is worth it.
