If you’re installing the new tiles with thinset mortar, the thinset will fill in the existing grout lines as you go, so there won’t be any low spots. If you’re installing a peel and stick tile backsplash, you’ll need to add grout to the existing grout lines first to create a level surface.
Flooring installation usually takes about one to three days, so it’s a project you can do over a long weekend if you plan to DIY.
