"When working around the house I noticed that my main circuit breaker panel was suffering some severe corrosion which turned out to be due to a leak coming down the main power cable. NE Renovations had gotten good reviews so I asked them and others for a quote. The NE Renovations team (I believe sub-contractors) seemed to know the most about what they were doing and also helped me take temporary measures to stop the leak. When they came back to perform the job they were very quick, clean and professional. This included replacing the interior and exterior wall penetration, meter box, main feed cable and some pieces on the circuit breaker panel. They also dealt with the town for permits and the electric company for pulling the box. Overall they did exactly what they said for the price that they quoted and I was very pleased with their service. I also used two of the Angie's List "BigDeal" coupons, which they handled without any problems. I would definitely recommend them to others.

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

While you can install solar panels by yourself, it can be a complicated process full of lots of manual labor, risky roof work, and knowledge of electrical wiring. Most solar panel installation projects should be reserved for a trained professional—especially if you plan on connecting your panels to the electrical grid rather than for off-grid use, which doesn’t require utility services.

Solar panels have a life span between 10 and 40 years, depending on the type of panel. For example, monocrystalline panels can last up to 40 years, while thin-film ones only last between 10 and 20 years. The longevity also comes down to keeping up with solar panel repairs and their related costs .

Yes, solar panel installation will require permits. The required permits will depend on where you live, as some states and cities have solar-specific permits, while others only require electrical permits to connect to the grid. In either case, it’s best to hire a reputable solar installer in your area, as a representative should handle all of the necessary permitting for you and will include the cost of the permits in your initial solar estimate.

For most U.S. homeowners, switching to solar energy is an excellent investment. A properly sized solar array can significantly reduce your electric bill, saving money on utilities every month. Most homeowners enjoy savings that cover the cost of their solar systems within 12 years and then turn a profit. Additionally, federal and state tax incentives are available that help make solar an even better and more profitable investment.

The best solar-panel mounting system will depend on your property layout, but you’ll typically want to try for south-facing panels to get the most sun. Roof mounting and wall mounting are both popular, but if your well setup is far away from buildings and other structures you can also set up a freestanding aluminum frame to mount your panels.
